Position coaches don't garner much attention from fans when changes are made in the offseason. I remember last spring as some of these changes were made, commenting that these were significantly less successful/experienced replacements. Looking at the coaching staff roster closer...it's so bad, especially on offense.

HC - Dennis Allen: His record as a HC says it all. No need to elaborate. Grade: F-

Offense
OC - Pete: A Great Value Sean Payton. It's arguable that Payton is becoming obsolete so his Assistant to the Regional Manager lacky Pete has to be the worst OC in the league. Grade: F -
Passing Game: Curry: Maybe this dude is great. Maybe not. Hard to know. He has zero NFL experience outside the Saints. Usually young guys bounce a lot if they're in demand. Grade: Incomplete
OL - Marrone: On paper, this isn't a bad coach for this role. But Marrone is extremely abrasive and bounces around a lot. Maybe he's lost his fire and the guys are tuning him out. Whatever the case, the OL is a dumpster fire. Grade: D (maybe worse but I'm giving him a letter grade bump based on past success)
RB - Joel Thomas: Who? Honestly, know nothing about him. He's never coached outside the Saints in the NFL. Our RBs don't seem great but I mean how much does coaching contribute to that. I'd say it's more on the OL. Grade: Incomplete
WR - Kodi Burns: Another dude who has never coached offense in the NFL anywhere but here. Maybe he's good but I doubt he's close to Curtis Johnson or John Morton. Grade: Incomplete
TEs - Clancy Barone - Old dude who was out of the league after being canned by the Bears until his buddy Allen resurrected his corpse. Grade: F

I'm not bothering with the offensive "assistants."

That staff is terrible. You have Pete, Marrone and Barone and a bunch of dudes with no experience outside the Saints. So a couple of old guys and dudes who have learned from them. Great.

I think the most glaring issue is that Pete seemed to have learned nothing from Sean, and is hell bent on just trying to use the same playbook instead of adapting to his current personnel. But, Sean's offense is all he knows, and he has shown that he doesn't even know it well enough to score points regardless of who is playing QB, despite having the best set of weapons that we've had in a very long time. Pete has never run an offense on his own at even a college level, let alone in the NFL. His highest coaching position in the NFL before coming here was WR coach.

I'm not really in a spot to judge the rest of the staff when it's the blind who is leading them.

Our high school classmate Kevin Petry is an assistant coach that use to assist Sean Payton and is still on the coaching staff now. Not sure what he does for Dennis Allen but he never played high school football or anything. He was in the marching band with us so his prior experience was just as much as all of ours lol

Kodi Burns has developed Olave and Shaheed into weapons. Perry and Davis both looked great in preseason. Thomas is back and outside of being a blink slower, he's truly back. We all knew TQS was beyond saving.

Really can't ask a Wide Receiver coach to be more successful than that. A+ imo.

This might explain something!!!! We always had to relearn our halftime program when we had an invitation to perform on an NFL field. The hash marks in high school are different from professional football.

I'm not even sure sean's offense is all that innovative anymore.

I'd agree. He made some changes though and adapted to Drew's declining arm and we were still insanely effecient. My biggest gripe about it, even when he was still here, is telegraphing run with obvious personnel groupings.

After working with the quarterbacks in 2022, Petry will tutor the Saints wideouts with Wide Receivers Coach Kodi Burns in 2023.

Did y'all have some high level footwork going on in that marching band? LOL

FWIW, Payton reportedly tried to get him to join the Broncos staff and he chose to stay with New Orleans.
