Projecting The New Orleans Saints Picks In The 2024 Draft

The latest forecast has the Saints owning 8 picks in the 2024 Draft. Here's where  Tankathon slots them all into the 2024 Draft order, reflecting them into the latest NFL standings:

1. Round 1, Pick 12
2. Round 2, Pick 35 (via Denver)
3. Round 4, Pick 137 (Compensatory)
4. Round 5, Pick 153
5. Round 5, Pick 172 (Compensatory)
6. Round 5, Pick 176 (Compensatory)
7. Round 6, Pick 193
8. Round 6, Pick 210 (via Philly)

The Saints are without their own 2024 2nd round pick. They traded it to Philly in part of a package deal to trade up to acquire an additional 1st round 2022 pick which they used to Draft OL Trevor Penning. The Saints swapped their 2024 3rd round pick for the Broncos 2024 2nd round pick as part of the Sean Payton deal. The Saints 4th round pick belongs to the Jaguars due to the draft day trade to move up and select QB Jake Haener in the 2023 draft. The Saints sent their 2024 7th round pick to the Texans to bring Mark Ingram II home a couple of years ago.

The Compensatory Picks have not yet been awarded; The above slotted Picks are based on Predictions From Over The Caps' Anylists and those forecasts change each week. Compensatory Picks will be confirmed in March of 2024 so they can't be included in any trade deals made in 2023.

The Saints could wind up with more or less, higher or lower Compensatory Picks based off of contract information and playing time logged by players lost. Kaden Ellis, David Onyemata and Marcus Davenport factor into the Compensatory Picks that will be awarded for 2024.

My first thoughts here are I'm hoping the Saints won't be drafting this high in 2024. Baring a trade this year that would include any of the 2024 picks the Saints own as of now, they will enter the 2024 draft with a 1st round pick and a high 2nd round pick, along with several lower round picks. Expect the Saints to move up into either the 3rd or 4th round by trading some of the lower picks they will enter the 2024 draft with. Even with a strong 2023 finish the Saints could be drafting at a pretty good order in the first 5 rounds of the 2024 draft.
