We've had their by-weekly delivery service for several months. This last Friday now marks the 3rd time they've neglected to bring our delivery. Each event was followed by a phone call in which they blamed us, saying that our empty bottles were not out for pickup. Each time we have explained that our bottles are stored in their pickup location. In other words, they are always there. We are calling to cancel the service tomorrow. It's frustrating because we really enjoy the convenience of the delivery. But it bites to run out of water on the Friday before a 3 day weekend.

Does anyone have any experiences with other companies in the Metro area? Kentwood?

How about good ole tap water.

i really, really like my BRITA water pitcher. :)

I really, really don't like the chlorine taste of NOLA's tap water. I know it's supposed to be safe, but I just can't get over the thought of my drinking water running through all those old pipes, etc. Heck, just the decrepit plumbing in this old shotgun house is scary to me, let alone something the city government is responsible for.

In college, I made an academic visit to a water plant in Ohio. They knew we were coming, so you'd think they'd at least pick up the rotting dead animals in the already "filtered" water. I know tap works for a lot of people. And I used to do the whole Brita thing. Any experiences with local water delivery would be appreciated though.

Yes, and when you have a BRITA pitcher, i find it filters out that flavor. (heh you DO have to change out the filter every so often ;) )

i submit that DC's water is arguably just as funky as i remember New Orleans' was.

Like i'd said in the post i had been editing when this thread got the last four replies or so, i believe we used Abita in our offices and i don't remember having an issue.

Support local business (Reily Foods/Luzianne runs Abita) instead of Kentwood (owned by an Atlanta company).

Thanks for informing me of the Kentwood/Atlanta thing. I guess I'll go back to a Brita filter if Abita doesn't do something to convince us to stay on board.

i think it's odd that this is happening. Could it possibly just be a bad route guy?

i guess i mean, how far up the chain of command have you traveled with your issue.

Not very far. I'm sure it could be a bad driver. But this being the third time in a short period is not good business. We'll see where we get tomorrow.

From http://www.businessreport.com/news/2007/may/23/news-roundup-kentwood-buys-abita-springs-whitfield/

Water, water everywhere: The parent company of Kentwood Springs Water Company has purchased Abita Springs Water, according to The Times-Picayune. Terms of the deal were not announced. DS Waters of America, which owns Kentwood and six other labels, says it plans to keep the water brands and facilities separate.

Well shoot. Maybe I'll just go ahead and stick to drinking Abita of a different sort.

Well, that is news. Six days ago. Brennan, that might have something to do with your service problem.

So that's essentially a water-delivery monopoly. They think they can tell you to go jump in the lake, because there's no viable competition for you to call.

i think there's a company named Dixie Springs that Atlanta doesn't own yet?

Wow they don't even seem to have a website. Marketing dark ages. sigh. 504.254.2927, they appear to be somewhere on Chef Hwy.

That...is...disgusting. I drink both tap and bottled water because it really doesn't matter to me, but now I might have to start rethinking the tap water thing.

About your problem though, if it's the same guy who does the route then it's most likely just him. But it's really bad business on Abita's part to continue to claim that it's your fault. You are paying for a service which they are not faithfully supplying.

When I was in New Orleans a group of us teachers had water delivered to the school on our own personal dime of course. We used Kentwood and the delivery guy was always on time and very friendly.
