why did we draw up a play for Tommy Lee Lewis of all players in crunch time?

still the worst call of my lifetime (except the one I benefitted from - Denkinger in '85 WS).

It's a black eye the NFL will never lose or live down. It's been shown a million times on sports shows and everyone, even every Ram fan, knows it was an absolute theft of the Saints' return to the Super Bowl.

Like many, I lost some of my fandom that day because the NFL said loud and clear, "we don't care about our fans, we don't care about our players, we don't care about fair, we care about what we think will generate ratings and revenue, especially when it comes to the Super Bowl."

Well, IIRC, Super Bowl viewership, while still super-high, has declined some since then. I can tell you I don't take much interest in it. The only thing that will make me interested in making a day of watching it is the Saints getting there again, but the cynical side of my brain is certain the NFL won't allow that to happen.

Thanks, Triumph, I’m a Saints and Cardinal fan. The two worst call in the history of sports that cost teams championships. Acknowledged by everyone that both calls were wrong with no argument from anybody.

Denkinger was Game 6. While it was severely deflating to the Cards, they still had Game 7. My brother-in-law and sister in St. Louis are season-ticket holders so I was at Busch for like Game 3 or 4 in that series.

Saints never had a game 7 on the table. They were screwed late in their elimination game. While I'll never understand why Vinovich was allowed to continue reffing, I also, with footnote, will always remember UFDA Dan Arnold's end zone drop earlier in the 2nd half.

Also in Game 6 (Denkinger game), Jack Clark let a foul pop drop uncaught the pitch after the (non) call. Just watched the top of the 9th of the game, Porter had a passed ball to put 2 runners in scoring position! A confluence of suck. The whole thing led to a 11-0 mauling in Game 7

I suppose the case could be made that the Saints had OT to make things right, but didn't. Not much consolation tbf.

We were literally breaking the Dome because pieces of the ceiling in some rooms were falling down. Bravo to the crowd that day for nonstop noise and making the Rams struggle the way they did as shown in the video. That No Call not only robbed the team but robbed the fans' spirits and we have never been as loud since. I know for myself part of me these days says why even bother with loud noise if the NFL can take it away that easily.

I agree. My passion has never been the same since that game because I feel the NFL is rigged. Now with NIL and the transfer portal ruining college sports, my passion for college football and basketball is waning as well
