All is not lost regarding a bye (1 Viewer)

we were the 1 seed (thus had a bye & HFA) the year we won the SB

edit: and the Vikings were the 2 seed

edit2: Peat is already practicing... so I hope he plays this week to get his feet back under him... I haven't heard any timeline for Warford's return

My fault. Thought we beat the Cardinals at home in a wildcard game before the Vikings win.

Yeah that’s just silly, you take a free win in a round of the playoffs if you can get it haha

Cardinals game was the Divisional Round

Arizona had beaten Green Bay 51-45 in OT in the Wild Card round the week prior... the Cardinals returned an Aaron Rodgers fumble (Rodgers playoff debut IIRC) for a TD for the game-winning score in OT

everything that was true heading into tonight's game is still true heading into week 17

Saints win + EITHER a 49ers loss OR a Packers loss gives the Saints a 1st round bye

Saints win + BOTH a 49ers loss AND a Packers loss gives the Saints HFA

the only difference is we have much less faith in the Lions winning than the Vikings

Agreed but silver lining they can’t do much worse than those scrubs tonight. (Lions)
They almost beat the Pack earlier in the year, granted they were much less banged then.

Yep and who in their right mind would rather have to play 3 games to get to the show, than 2? Who? And to potentially have to go on the road.

How battered are they? I’m confused on this. They had two RB’s and an offensive lineman injured right? Don’t they get Clowney back on defense? Would you still not take Wilson than Garrapalo over this type of a game?
In the N.F.L anything can happen. However they couldn't beat a below average Cardinals team missing thier starting QB.

we are12-3, just let that sink in. we have been consistantly good enough 3 years and counting. We are a Force in the NFC and all the wishful thinking doesn't even matter because no team wants to play us if they can avoid it. I say forget the narrative and focus on the fact that we are once again in position to make a SB run. A bye would be nice but the opportunity to still play football in January is only available to 12 teams and we are one of them. Like the great coach at that Louisiana school always says, "we comin"

It really comes down to this: Who is going to get hot in the playoffs? Saints have all the pieces I think to make a deep run from the 3rd seed but everything needs to come together. Offense is looking good but defense is the big question. If defense can get it together to even be average and stop big plays then this team will be in good shape, regardless of seeding

Of the two I want Seattle to win more. If the Niners win we would have to play in San Fran. If they lose but the Pack win, we won’t have automatic HFA but we very likely would not have an away game because the Pack will be gone before they could meet the 2 seed.

I get that the easiest route to the superbowl is a first round bye. Makes sense for a team with poor depth and holes that constantly need to be plugged. That isn’t us though. I think we are built to rewrite history on the first round bye probabilities. Of course you take a first round bye but really don’t think it’s as a big of issue as some make it. Especially considering our HOF QB has had some rest. You guys forget that part?

Ask any fans, who teams are in the NFC playoffs and I bet that they would say Saints is the team they don’t want to see. Saints are the hottest team right now.

to be fair... the Cardinals had every chance to beat the 49ers in both games this season

This. Divisional games.
