All-Pro CB Charvarius Ward thought he was going to the Saints before Colts offered more $ at the last minute (5 Viewers)

Ward is pretty much a local to our fan base. He's from the McComb, Miss. area, I believe. Played juco ball at Hinds CC, near Jackson. Coming to the Saints would've basically been a homecoming. And I give credit to Loomis (!) et al for pursuing him. But any time someone calls THEMSELVES great, I have to wonder about that person's ego.
We are definitely looking into some homegrown prospects this year!

It’s a business and money is what it should be about, but this makes me think back to Godwin taking $22 million less to stay in Tampa. That’s wild!

Colts don't have the answer to the AFC's elite teams. Richardson isn't it. I hope Ward enjoys the money because that's all he'll get in Indy and an AFC South title or two that goes nowhere.

Makes me think that we’re about to throw a big contract at Asante
I really hope not. At least not more than 1 or 2 years. Samuel Jr. is an injury risk and isn’t a clear upgrade on Kool-Aid and Taylor to pay him $10 million or more per year. Ward would’ve been a major upgrade in coverage though, including over Adebo. Ward falls in the category of select players to throw a big contract at to address a top starting spot, not Asante Samuel Jr.

Signing Yiadom seems to be the boundary CB fallback plan for not getting Ward until the draft.

Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who landed on injured reserve in Week 6 and missed the remainder of the season, said he has been dealing with “stinger symptoms.” According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, stingers “are injuries that occur when nerves in the neck and shoulder are stretched or compressed after an impact” and can feel like “an electric shock or lightning bolt down the arm.”

“Just wanted to make sure for the long run I’ll be good, make sure my health overall is good,” Samuel said. “I wish I could have been out there with the team. It was killing me not to be out there with those guys. But I had to make sure my health was good.”

Samuel said he was “born with” this ailment. This season, the symptoms first flared up during practice in Week 1. He played four games after that first instance. The symptoms flared up again after a collision in practice before a Week 6 game at the Denver Broncos, according to Samuel. He said he has felt symptoms in both shoulders, but the left shoulder has been worse than the right one.

This may explain why he's still on the market. He's a risky Investment.

I'm ok with this. If we aren't going to clear the books because Mickey Loomis is incapable of that, at least we are doing small smarter contracts that seem easier to get out of.

Good news.

He's a great player but we are far away from competing and shouldn't be handing out massive contracts at this point.

Yiadom at his contract is much much better for where we are at.
Yup, Yiadom at 3 million is better than Ward at 20 million IMO, even though Yiadom maybe the lesser player.
