I wasn't that crazy about their fried chicken sandwich. Too much of a sweet profile. It's good, but not great.

There is other stuff at Compere Lapin that's much better.

It's a great place all around, I was going w/ the fried chicken sammich craze thing as a hook lol...

I stayed in the Bourbon Orleans hotel for part of my NFC championship game trip lat year. Fairly old school feel in the FQ.

Can't stand it, small outdated rooms and I simply don't like the whole style of the place. The luxury hotels in town here are all very "antiquey" and have that certain decor that I understand fits in with the city of new orleans, it's just not to my tastes. I prefer much more modern and minimal hotels. Also the level of service in New Orleans is starting to fall behind on the high end. Theres just nowhere in town that makes me want to check into the hotel and have a staycation for the weekend. The four seasons will probably be amazing (and super duper expensive) but at least I will have an "aspirational" hotel in new orleans.

I agree about the antiquey decor, but Windsor Court has 800 sq ft suites and their Jr Suites are probably 600. We generally stay in the suite with a bed, bar, living room and bath with lady's makeup area. Service is as good as any other place we stay. The 4 Seasons we stayed in while in HI this summer was super nice though service was not as good as WC.

Have you stayed since they remodeled all the rooms a couple years ago? Personally, I miss the full sized fridges and honor bars with full sets of dishes and glassware, but things change. They certainly brought it into the 21st century even to include card keys instead of the old heavy brass.

Anyway, The Saint or International House are more modern and the Lucifer Suite is pretty nuts just don't look at anything with a black light.

The Jung is closer to the interstate than the river, but it is a very nice, boutique style place (it also has a residence area). Restaurant leaves a lot to be desired though.

the big problem with the Jung right now is for those who plan to do much of their visit in the quarter. You can’t simply walk or hop a streetcar to get to the other end. You either have to walk over to Bienville and come up or backwards to Tulane until you get up to Burgundy.

and it is definitely cool. I have not ventured into the hotel end though.

I think the Old No 77 Kind of fits the bill. I stayed there when it was something else and its interesting to say the least. If its the one I'm thinking of, they have connected several buildings and you are aware that you are stepping into another building because the hall has to step up (is this the one I'm thinking of?)

anyway there is a lot of good food right there. St James Cheese has some great sandwiches. Cochon and Butcher are right down the block and Fulton has a ton of lot of good eating. Burgers at Lucys or Barcadia. And the walk to the casino or into the FQ is perfect. You can even use the tunnel under Poydras from the Casino hotel to the actual casino for all of your crossing of Poydras.

I'd go to Luke if I wanted a burger. I've had Lucy's and Barcadia in BR. Neither is remotely close to Luke. Not sure the distance, but don't think it would be too far as to make it not worth the walk.

I have a friend who cooks there and yet I have not had it. Thanks for the tip.

for someone visiting here, burger probably isn't top choice anyway. But generally I prefer the food in the Fulton area over that in the actual Quarter so I think that area is a good one to stay in.

I worked there years ago when i was in college and it was then called the St. Louis Hotel.. It has maybe the nicest courtyard in the City, which is saying somehting.. But you have to really not mind being in the belly of the beast, because the front door is literally only a few footsteps off of Bourbon St..... I know this, because as a 20 yr old college student, working the 3pm-11pm shift, getting off of work with $200 or $300 worth of cash tips in my pocket- being a few steps off of Bourbon meant trouble.. and it also meant that I didn’t really save much money that year.

Researching Mazerin and came across Cambria. #2 ranked by tripadvisor fwiw and might fit the bill. Prices don't look too outrageous either.

I'll be looking at it next trip down.
