I'm sure that some of you remember: The New Orleans Buccaneers made the ABA finals, and took it to the full 7 games!

Former NBA coach Larry Brown was our starting guard!!!

Here's a recap of the 7-game series. Enjoy! :munch:

PS: Back then (1968) you could purchase a showroom-new sedan for about $2,000.

The Bucs were before my time, but some of my earliest memories as a very little kid are of attending New Orleans Jazz games in the Dome... they had Pistol Pete (though i’ve only read that, and don’t actually remember him playing).. what i do remember very clearly, as i’m sure a lot of other old-timers here can attest to, was that anytime the Jazz scored over 100 points, it entitled anyone in attendance to get free French fries at any Burger King in the NOLA metro area, by showing your ticket stub.. so way before Who Dat was ever a thing, the crowd was chanting ‘Free Fries!’ in unison.

I don’t think the Jazz were ever very good though , so i was surprised to learn that the Bucs almost won an actual (non-NBA) title... News to me.

I remember the Bucs with Larry Brown. Pretty good point guard. I also remember the names Red Robbins and Doug Moe. Mostly a blur though.

i got those free fries all of twice
once was at a BK on Vets close to lakeview (ntnm)
i think the second one was downtown somewhere
it was something to watch Pistol play (in my memory I was there for the 68 pt game, but i'm not sure if that's legit or a 10yr old's active imagination)-
sorry we could never put a team around him

being in that dome with only about 3000 in attendance for a jazz game was kinda surreal

We had this sticker in the bathroom window at my parents house. Strange place to put a sticker but.. I remember going to see the Jazz play at the Loyola Field House on Freret st. That was before the Dome was finished..I believe.

That Bucs sticker is a serious past blast. They were fun to watch, and IIRC Doug Moe coached or played for the Nuggets.

I won tix to a Bucs game by sinking free throws at a boat show at the Rivergate. Thanks for the memories!

OK i am not that chronologically challenged

A blur? Get it together old man. Jimmy Jones, Steve Jones, Jackie Moreland and Gerald GoGo Govan to name a few. The Bucs were great fun. Doug Moe and Larry Brown were quite a combo, like a poor mans Karl Malone and John Stockton.

And Jimmy Jones was so smooth and under rated.

They were way more fun than the Jazz and the Pelicans.
