Any updates on Zack Baun? (1 Viewer)

The Saints drafted Zack Baun in the 3rd round from Wisconsin and there has been no reports of his progress that has been recently reported. I don't think he even played this weekend. Has anyone seen anything written on him yet? In fact, no drafted rookies from the 2020 class saw the field this weekend. Just undrafted rookie Roach

Trautman saw the field, 7 snaps.

Pretty sure Baun was a healthy scratch. The time he missed in TC hurt his development I'm thinking. With the style of defense that we are playing, even when he does become active I think he'll be a situational player where he can show off his ability to pass rush standing up.

Our base defense only has 2 linebackers (Anzalone and Davis) and for good reason. We're able to be a top tier run D while playing almost exclusively nickel and dime.

He was injured for the last week or 2 of camp, but reports seemed to be positive before that. He didn't show up on the official injury report for Week 1, which was good, but he may also have been a bit behind. Without preseason and OTAs, it's a hard year for rookies. I'm sure he'll be used more as he heals up and learns a little more.

I like the aggressiveness DJ plays with. His MO has always been that he’ll get a few personal fouls a season, but he’s an enforcer and there aren’t many left in the league. As long as it doesn’t cost us a critical game, I’m good with it. We’ve needed that edge for some time.

It is interesting that we got just about zero contribution from our entire 2020 draft class to beat the Bucs.

The Raiders are a run first team so theres a good chance Baun will be active Sunday.

Saints went the Smart route and get the game in the hands of the vets. Might see em get some field time if the Saints get a really good lead early against the Raiders. Hopefully Ruiz will be healthy

I enjoyed watching the physicality of the Saints defense. It'll wear out opposing offenses and perhaps get in their psyche

He crushed Godwin. I haven’t seen a hit like that in some time. I think DJ stole part of his soul.

I think Baun was having a good camp before his injury so he prob just needs to heal up fully before we see him out there but he would be behind AA and maybe even Ellis depending on the package used, so there’s that. Ruiz we’ll see very soon I’m sure. I didn’t realize Trautman was even out there but glad he was, think Payton should use him more.
