I am out of town and was not able to attend or watch Sunday's game. But with the empty seats and booing I am reading about, it seems that the fan base is ahead of the local media in recognizing the mediocrity of the product offered, the absurdity of the public statements by Allen and Loomis that better days are ahead, and that this franchise is one in decline with a dismal immediate future unless dramatic changes are made at the end of the season.

I know that Eric Asher and Matt Mascona have been beating the drums, and it seems Jeff Duncan just wrote a column saying the current state of the franchise is unacceptable. But overall it seems that the local media are behind the fan base and that their criticism of the organization, especially Loomis, can be measured in baby steps.

Nick Underhill and Mike Triplett pointed out the team’s inefficiency and the crowd’s boos as it was happening live during the game. Nick tweeted-then-deleted that this is the end for this coaching staff at the time Detroit was up 21-0 before the comeback attempt. Since the Vikings and Falcons losses, both have been relentlessly pointing out the team’s incompetency on their site NOF and their twitter.

I think the local media is scared of the Saints taking away access from the franchise.
Think about it. The Saints take up 80-90% of local spots talk even during the offseason.
There’s only a few franchises that take up that much airspace in a market.

It’s always the tricky aspect of local media coverage of a team.

Some reporters will push the envelope but you can always tell there’s more “company men and women” than the ones who push.

Yep... Them "credentials" and "special access passes" all of a sudden dry up when they start pushing too hard.

There is no free press. All the platforms are controlled.

This one is entirely up to the fans to push and be loud about it and let the chips fall.

You don't want future folks to start coming here saying new Orleans and the fans are unique love their team with passion great this and that then stink up the joint and ignore the fans.

Light em up who dat nation

A decline in investigative media does not help as well. Regardless of city, most newsrooms rinse and repeat the same junk: crime, traffic, and weather, with some sports at the end. I think social media has replaced investigative media and is providing valuable information. Just because nola.com or wwl doesn't cover it doesn't meant it isn't true. We stink and our epic run has been over since Drew left the building.

Every few weeks, the problem seems to move further up the chain.

Last year it was the players.
Then it was the injuries.
Then it was the QB.
Then it was Pete.
Then it was Allen.
Then we were 4-9 and the season was for all intents and purposes, over.
Then the offseason and theres no blame.
Then we get Allens 150 Million Dollar QB.
Then we are gifted with the softest schedule known to man.
Then its Pete again.
Then we stay healthy up until the last 2 weeks.
We start 5-7 and trending down.
Then its Allen again.
Then we realize that Loomis is the facilitator of all of this, with his dumb signings and extensions, whatever you want to call the ridiculous draft trades in 2022 - and other years giving up valuable mid round picks, hiring Allen to begin with, and allowing Allen and Pete to continue doing what theyre not doing, and continue kicking the can well past the point it shouldve been kicked.

Then you realize, weak ownership is the over arching problem with this franchise. She doesnt know the first thing about building or sustaining success. She doesnt know how to run a franchise, be it a mcdonalds in kenner or a NFL football team. She isnt present. She has ceded power to people who no longer care about results, and all of them are perfectly content with absolute power and not turning over the apple cart.

Would the media say that? No, the fans are definitely the truth.

it feels like PTSD from the sean payton era. sean would give it right back when the media would get aggressive but he kind of earned the right to do that. DA has not. he's also said a lot of things to the media that these reporters should have jumped on. things that come to mind is how he's always making excuses for carr juxtaposed to him throwing jameis under the bus any time he underperformed and him claiming that kamara came out because he needed a "breather" for the last 8 minutes of the falcons game. he should be relentlessly questioned on stuff like that. the local press, atleaset NOF has definitely picked it up in the last few weeks and asked some pretty point blank questions to DA and carr but at this point they need to be much more aggressive. what is the org gonna do, cut off their access? the national media couldn't give a rip about this team so they're going to cut out the only ppl willing to cover this clown show? media has the upper hand right now they should exploit it. the team isn't entertaining on sundays so might as well give us something to watch during the week.

This is a generation of Saints fans that expect a competitive team every season. Since 2006, this team has always had a chance, and now (under Dennis Allen) it’s a dumpster fire and the fans won’t stand for it!

It’s a great thing… Early Saints fans were just happy with a shot to maybe sneak into the playoffs.. Nowadays, they better clean up their house, or the fans will simply move on.

It’s really all about money… and the Saints are a business… right now business stinks.

I totally get what you are saying - but I don’t think that ownership style is as crucial To success as it sometimes seems.

I think we are accustomed to seeing meddlesome owners like Jerry Jones, Irsay and (former owner) Daniel Snyder - or really positively engaged owners like Robert Kraft and Jeffery Lurie.

When in reality - the majority of owners have little direct involvement with the team beyond upper-management and league mandated things.

I get that a strong owner can keep things fresh by making changes from the top-down but you also have to walk a fine line. Look at Tepper in Carolina to see as an example of when owners are too aggressive.

I think the Saints upper management can be good enough to reestablish the franchise as a winner -as long as they are able to recognize and adapt to the changes of the league.

Loomis already made a big error and it has set the team back, possibly significantly. But he can right the course if he’s willing to make a change at the end of this season.

The NFL is now a league of mobile QBs with young offensive-minded coaches who bring innovation to keep the super-freak athletes on the defense on their toes.

You can’t use the “strong defense with a 3 yds and a cloud of dust (or ground up rubber) for an offense. Allen and Carmichael are too predictable and the younger, more innovative coaches and players are eating them alive.

Loomis needs to make a change regardless of where the Saints end up in January. The current staff is not cut out for sustainable success.

If Loomis can’t recognize that, then yes he needs to go to. Will Gayle cut him loose? I agree - it’s maybe not likely - but maybe she’ll surprise us.

usually no
fan anger in times like this is akin to monkeys with machine guns - just spraying anger indiscriminately
hopefully most local media at least applies perspective and context - will discuss why choices were made, why changes were or were not made and compare the current state of a team with other teams

But it’s especially tricky since the Saints have no competition from here to Atlanta.
The NY teams don’t have this sort of power.

Detellier also. Deuce is not happy. Many reports just shrug it off.

What are you reading and listening to? It's been pretty negative and really peaked after the loss to the Falcons.
