Here is a great article by Mississippian and ESPN.com writer Wright Thompson about Augusta National and his late father. I dare you guys to read this and not...uh...get something in your eye.

Daddy watched the Masters every year. He dreamed of attending just one, and he's always on my mind when I come here for my job. Indeed, for all of us lucky enough to actually walk through these gates, we cannot leave without having thoughts of our daddies, for Augusta National is a place for fathers and sons. Davis Love III navigates the same fairways as Davis Love Jr. New fathers carefully hold toddler hands. "Can you see?" you'll hear them say. Strong arms tenderly steer stooped backs. "Look out, Dad," you'll hear them say softly. That is Augusta.

I grew up in Augusta. There is truly nothing like it anywhere....

Those from Augusta, you got any stories about the course, like sneaking on or whatever? Or is it a place that if you are from Augusta, that just about everybody who plays golf in that town has been to see the course? Not comparing these two courses, but Fallen Oak has been open here just north of Biloxi for a year or more. But everybody knows somebody that has played it even though you have to be a guest at the Beau Rivage and still pay the $250 green fee. I know how exclusive Augusta National is, but do any of ya'll have any personal stories?

I read this story last year when they first put it up, I have to admit the room suddenly got really dusty when I read it.

There is no just sneaking on at augusta. One cool thing though is that when I was in high school you could sign up to work that week b/c we had spring break. All sorts of jobs in the kitchen on the grounds. It was always exciting to here peoples stories about the money they were making from tips and such.

i could not read the whole thing. got to blurry eyed. I have an uncle that is going to the masters this year. I sent the article to him

Great article. Thanks for passing it along to the rest of us! That was very tough to make it through

The only way for a local to get on in the past was to go to the practice round.
I got lucky one year, though.
I had a job each year during the tournament, driving Japanese contest winners to and from the National. The guide came every year, and became a family friend. On Sunday afternoon, he came back to the house and asked if I wanted to use his ticket. I was there on the 18th green when Jose Marie Olazabal won his first green jacket. Got to see Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, Ray Floyd, Arnold Palmer, and several other legends finish their round. One of the coolest sports moments of my life.
