Battle for WR (2 Viewers)

TQS is always the WR3/WR4 so by matter of limited opportunities he'll never be featured enough to always show up with big stats...which is why his other attributes are always being highlighted. He can play outside and inside. Just not a world beater. Glue guy.

T. Smith is supposedly dominating in camp according to Hebert and Detelier.
Yeah, its not gonna make many fans happy when he's on the 53 man roster while their favorite new WR is not. And when he's on the field on gamedays instead of the inactives list.

He's the one any new receiver has to beat out for a job. That means they have to be great at downfield run blocking, be able to know and play all 3 WR positions in the saints system, and play special teams.... all better than Smith. I dont see that guy on our camp roster.

Listening to Underhill's ppdcast, it sounds like Kirkwood is also ahead of the class.

Blocking. That's all he's good @. He will have 1 good game, then dissapears for 3.
Biggest knocks on TQS is that je never turned io our #1 or #2 WR and that he's been injured a lot. The things that keep him on the team are the things that coaches know and want.

It's a good problem to have.

I think Edwards is a lock for the 4th WR.

I think we keep 2 more.

I think it's a 3 man race for those two spots. TQS knows the team and is a good teammate and blocker. Washington and Coutee can both be contributors at the NFL level and still have upside. 2 of these 3 will make the final roster.

I think Perry and Davis go to the PS, and Bowden, Kirkwood, and the odd man out above, all try to catch on elsewhere.

TQS' "crime" is that he's a depth player, who plays at the level of a depth player and hasn't turned into a superstar.

Every new WR instantly looks more attractive, because fans always be projecting scrubs into superstars.

The top 3 are set with Thomas Olave and Rasheed.

It's the bottom 3 that is going to be down the the wire.

Of the 5 vets 4 entered the league in 2018

Rec/yards/TDs
Trequan Smith 131/1764/18
James Washington 114/1629/11
Keke Coutee 85/966/4
Keith Kirkwood 19/257/2

Next 2 entered league in 2020

Brian Edwards 48/779/4
Lynn Bowden Jr 28/211/0

Kawaan Baker is in his 3rd camp with no recorded stats

Then the rookies in A.T. Perry and Shaq Davis.

For the 4 guys going into their 6th season it's what you see is what you get. Ceilings are pretty much reached.

Edwards and Bowden are going into their 3rd season so there is still upside with them.

The 2 rookies are all upside at this point.

We have the 3 locks, 3 roster spots available and 1-2 PS spots.

With the vets here are the 2022 stats

Smith 19/278/1
Edwards 3/15/0
Coutee 1/20/0
Kirkwood 2/18/0
Washington 0/0/0
Bowden 0/0/0

Right now I would venture a guess that Smith, Edwards and Perry make the roster. Davis and Bowden go to the PS and the rest will be looking for a new team.
With a lot of Allens focus being on guys who catch in Traffic well I think the rookie will make it, and I think Tre'quan makes it and I think Graham makes the team as a "receiver"

Edwards doesn't appear to be making much noise in camp and I know learning the offense can potentially be tough for new guys.

Outside of Perry stinking it up or suffering from some type of injury, I think he makes this final roster. Though its to early to tell and we are getting our information from the media and not the coaches nobody really knonws.

1. Thomas
2. Olave
3. Shaheed
4. TQS
5. Perry

I have high hopes for Edwards. Dude has all the physical tools. Now it's time to see if he has the mental tools to put it together.

Edwards and Carr have chemistry and familiarity with each other. Carr would have at a minimum been consulted before they brought him in for a contract, and could possibly have lobbied for the front office to go get him. I would expect his relationship with Carr makes him a lock for the roster. We all fall in love with the camp beasts, but we can more easily stow away a 6th round draft pick on the practice squad than we can replicate chemistry and comfort Carr has with Edwards.

The goal is to keep ALL of these guys if possible for depth in case of injury.

We can do that if we practice squad the rookies.

If Edwards gets cut, he will end up somewhere else.

So will Coutee. IMO
