N/S Bengals give permission to Trey Hendrickson to seek trade (109 Viewers)

Smart move by the Bengals. Hubbard just retired. They drafted a DE a couple seasons ago, so they have one replacement on the roster already. Get whatever they can for Hendrickson now.

They know their offense is where they need to spend money and retain talent.

Defensive players can make the transition easier and this is a loaded defensive draft.

Revamp the defense through the draft and strategic FA signings while keeping the offensive core in place.
There defense was the reason they were always in shootouts most the season. I'm not saying Joe doesn't help but the offense is miles ahead of the defense in terms of talent.

Exactly. You can't rebuild the defense when you're paying one dude 1/6 of your salary cap. Tear it down, have a primarily defensive draft and they wouldn't be any worse than they were, but they'd have a defense on rookie contracts while their O is on 2nd contracts. The Rams rebuilt their defense with this exact strategy.

Baun and Hendrickson let go and who did we keep instead?

Yes, and I don't think it is ever smart for a team to sign a player over 30 to.huge contract, unless they play QB. Bengals got Max value out of him. He will never match his previous 3 seasons.

TREX probably has one year left and then most likely decline a bit.

Agreed and that's a big reason why they are trading him instead of resigning him. If Hubbard had returned, they might do something different, but with him retiring it forces them to make a bold move and this is it. The draft capital they will get for dealing Hendrickson will allow them to address the defense even more. If I were them, I would have a near all defense draft with the exception of a coupe O-lineman.

Yes and I was just thinking this, the Saints just need to stay away from spending huge money on free agency. Use it for roster depth and not not much else.

It's hard to think the last time the Saints have made a good FA signing

Yeah, I do agree to a point. I'd consider trading for Metcalf, but not for a 1st/3rd. He'd instantly be our WR1 and bring a big/fast/physical presence to the WR room. Add a RB like Jeanty at 9 and we would completely change the identity on offense.

I would like that. It beats signing Juice Landry, Honey Badger, Mayes and a host of other players who were already declining badly before signing here.

DK is still peak prime and should hit 10K yards in about three years. Not many guys have hit 10K yards, he'll probably also have about 70+ TDs as he sits at 48 right now.
