Best Case Draft Scenario (Realistic) (2 Viewers)

Absolutely no on Milroe.

Yes, on Mason Graham if he’s there or we trade up.

I’m not sold on those edge rushers as top 10 picks. I’d rather take an OT and move him or Fuaga to guard.

Trading down into the teens is also something that I would like to see and it almost happened in 2024 so it is possible.

If Drew Allar declares, and he should because this QB class is weak, he will shoot up the board and be considered a first rounder and we should take him.

With the tenth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft the New Orleans Saints select Drew Allar quarterback Penn State!
Allar is not even projected to go in the first round in a weak QB class. Why would we draft him at number 10?!?!

I think we will drop down to near 15

Not sure where we stand in the group of 6 win teams and I do t think we loose out , hopefully the 6 win teams win some games

I’m projecting all of the 6 win teams to win at least one more game based on their remaining opponents. The Saints will only win against the Raiders.

Seems reasonable.

Tankathon would suggest that the Saints will pick at 10. They are the only team at 5-9, meaning that 6-11 (barf) would be the final numbers. The finale against TB is the only other one that could be a win. GB? No.

Despite the Davenport and Turner disasters, conventional thinking says draft DE before DT. I wonder, however, if a really great DT would improve the defense more in the case of the Saints. Carr for one more year, see what Rattler offers, and hope for a better QB class in 2026.
That's kinda changed recently. More teams are going for a stud DT over DE. This is actually a pretty good answer from
AI

In most situations, drafting a defensive tackle (DT) over a defensive end (DE) is considered a better strategy because a strong interior defensive line is often seen as more crucial for overall defensive success, as it disrupts the offensive backfield and can control the line of scrimmage, making it harder for the offense to run or pass effectively; whereas a DE primarily focuses on pressuring the quarterback from the edge.

Key points to consider:
  • Impact on Run Defense:
A strong DT can significantly hinder an opponent's running game by plugging gaps and holding the point of attack, while a DE might be more focused on rushing the passer, leaving the middle vulnerable to runs.

  • Pass Rush Synergy:
While a good DE can generate sacks, having a strong DT duo can create pocket collapse, forcing the quarterback to step up into the pocket where other rushers can get to him.

So most likely we are picking at around the 10 spot depending on what happens the rest of the season. I would like that number to be a little higher as 7 or 8 look to be much better as the college prospects fall off a little after 8 in my opinion. I don't listen to scouts or look to hard at rankings because I believe the film speaks louder than potential.

As everyone knows Saints could use help everywhere and our Cap space in non-existent (thanks Loomis). Lets start at the DLine as this is a big area of need. Chase Young is most likely gone after the season, Cam Jordan (despite his recent play) is very long in the tooth, and our DT's give up way to many yards to RB's. I like Carl Granderson and Bryan Breese but we need to add to this line at some point. Many scouts have Abdul Carter or Mykel Williams as the #1 DE, but I like the build and tape of James Pierce Jr. He is ranked a little lower by most scouts, but put on the tape and you will see his disruption. He also plays the run much better than Carter or Williams. ( I like Williams over Carter for this reason as well.)

Mason Graham - He is a monster at 6'3" 318 pounds and moves very quick for his size. He uses power and speed to disrupt the line and consistently beats double teams. He plays all over the line but mostly at 3 Tech, which is where Bryan Breese plays. Honestly the Saints need a great NT more so than another great 3 Tech, but Mason Graham has too much potential to pass up. His pro comparison is Christian Wilkins. Breese and Graham would be absolute nightmares to stop on passing downs and Mason Graham plays the run better than Breese in my opinion.

Jalen Milroe - Carr will be the Saints QB in 2025 as his Cap Hit is 51M and his dead cap is 50M. The Saints are not going to cut him just to save 1M. However we could easily walk away from him in 2026 where his Cap Hit is 61.4M but his dead cap is "only" 28.6M. I don't believe that Haener nor Rattler is the future for the Saints and despite the scouts saying this isn't the best year for college QB's, I think there are 3 that could go in the top 7 picks. Sanders and Ward will most likely be gone by pick 2 or 3 (so I am not including them as targets for the Saints), but if Jalen Milroe enters the draft I think the Saints should think heavily about drafting him. We have all seen what this team looks like when Taysom Hill is in the game. A running QB changes the game completely (Jayden Daniels; Josh Allen; Lamar Jackson and even Mahomes to some extent) and the Saints could really thrive with this guy as their future. Jalen Milroe does need development but he is electric. Faster, Stronger and a better arm than Jalen Hurst. Sits behind Carr for 1 year and then is unleashed in the NFL.

Top 10 Prospect in no particular order:
Travis Hunter (CB;WR)
Shedeur Sanders (QB)
Cameron Ward (QB)
Abdul Carter (DE;OLB)
Will Campbell (T)
Tetairoa McMillan (WR)
Will Johnson (CB)
Mason Graham (DT)
Jalen Milroe (QB)
Kelvin Banks (T)

Prospects that are close to the Top 10: Ashton Jeanty (RB) ; Mykel Williams (DE) ; James Pierce Jr. (DE) ; Jalon Walker (LB)

I do think the best case scenario would be for the Saints to walk away with Jalen Milroe (even if they have to trade up a pick or two to get him) for both dual threat QB and CAP purposes, though I would be super happy with Mason Graham as well.

Thoughts?
Would like "rest" Carr the remainder of the season and see what Rattler can do. Some healthy WR would help his cause. I think his confidence is high, need to feed and develop that.
