I have cable..

So I'd only be able to pick up my local stations that are broadcasting HD? And that's only with an antenna attached as well?

Hmmm.. I was hoping to be able to get all of the HD channels my cable company currently offers.. That throws a kink in the plans..

You'll only be able to pick up the QAM channels from your cable company (mostly local) and unencrypted standard definition stuff, you won't be able to get things like DiscoveryHD, ESPNHD, etc... It's one of the reasons I abandoned my efforts (that and time and money).

There are "plans" in the air, but it's been talked about for a couple of years... DirecTV announced a product (similar to HDhomerun) that will allow you to send alll of their channels to your computer, but again, it isn't actually out yet.

i stand corrected, the hvr 1600 can control sat and cable box, but what good it that, cause then you'd only have channel 3 or 4 input, or svideo. not hd coming in that way to my understanding.

1600 is a good product though.. i do like it.
