Best Mexican Restaurant

Over here in Possum Holler(Harrison County Mexico) we have Mi' Mexico which is very authentic. They have some of the best tongue tacos on the planet, they are spicy, tender and melt in your mouth good. They have a pretty mean enchilada verdes too. Another place we have is Taco Sombrero, this is more a fast food type place but still good none the less. They use quality ingredients in all their stuff.

Gonna check some of these places out.

I'm moving to New Orleans in a few weeks after 11 years on the "Mexican Mile" in South Austin. One thing I will really miss is good Mexican food. Whether it be interior or texmex, I love this stuff.
Of course the trade-off is the I finally get to have good New Orleans fare. Like a Mexican restaurant in New Orleans, a the Cajun, Creole and New Orleans fare here in Texas leaves a lot to be desired. They try real hard, but just don't have it nailed down.

I don't think guacamole should be made tableside. It's a nice show, but the flavors don't blend properly. Guacamole needs to sit an hour or two.

Yeah, it didn't taste any better than any other guac.

Haven't seen it listed here but Pepe's in Lacombe is my favorite when it comes to the northshore. They are always really nice in there and and the ingredients seem quite fresh to me.

i second this.

i also suggest El Rinconcito, right next door to Angelo Brocato (N. Carrollton near Bienville)

i have heard good things about El Gato Negro; haven't been there yet.

The Carretta's in Slidell gets the traffic they do, because they are insanely cheap. Also, if you get Slidell people drunk and put a TV in each corner of the dining room, you can serve them old army boots and fire-ants and i bet they wouldn't notice.

El Palmar in Slidell wasn't bad, but it keeps closing suddenly and then re-opening after weeks of being closed. Not the best sign. i do not care for either Slidell location of Los Tres Amigos.

And i'm sure the word has already gotten out, but Slidell is getting a Pancho's where the Big Apple Chinese Buffet used to be, by the old Movies 8.

Carettas on veterans near Bonnabel is pretty good, so is Casa Garcia. Not sure how Cucos is still open.

I've now been to Taqueria La Noria twice in two days.
Lunch on Thrsday and dinner with the family Friday night.

It really is a step above the others over here on the north shore.

They have a pinapple pork taco that is terrific.

Everything is fresh and service with a smile.

That Carreta's is pretty bad, but it's amazingly fast. They can have your food on the table before you order it. Good white queso, though, and pretty good drinks.

The service is hit or miss at Juan's. There was/is a waiter there who had really thick glasses who was especially rude. I went there with some friends, after a Saints game. We walked in and Mr. Magoo mumbled something to us and we sat down. Turns out he said wait and let wipe down the table. The guy was out the box rude. I believe he still works there but has gotten contacts. I guess enough people complained so he had to change his disguise.

LaCareta's in LaPlace or Hammond.:9:
Tacorina Corona's on Vets Hwy (past David Drive):9:

Forgive the bump but I was seaching out of curiosity if Cucos was still open as I might be back in NOLA for a few days soon and back when I left circa 2003 it was still the bomb-diggity of Tex-Mex in the area. So imagine my sadness upon hearing that despite being around it has taken a dive in quality. Please someone tell me the chimighangas are still awesome...

Also, Superior Grill was beyond peer when it first opened, though I haven't eaten there since around 2000, but it was on par with the Shreveport location back then, and it also saddens me to hear that has fallen off as well.

To contribute to the discussion I would add that Serranos in Clearview was pretty darn good with the caveat that 2003 was the most recent visit I made there, though it did have that chain feel to it. The Chimichanga was excellente.

I've been there more recently than that, and I don't find it very good.

Best Authentic Mexican: Taqueria Corona

Best Fusion Mexican (Tex/Creole-Mex): Juan's Flying Burrito

Best Mexican in Metairie: Casa Garcia

All three are very good and all 3 are different :9:

Oh Superior Grill is great, too.

They opened a Casa Garcia in Hammond...it lasted like 3 months. That place was awful. Best Mexican restaurant by far is the original La Carreta in Hammond, but they have locations in BR, Mandeville and Metarie (me thinks).
