I live in N. Carolina and the Bojangle's commercials always use the term Cajun when they are talking about there food and while I do enjoy some chicken supremes every now and then, for some reason, I get slightly offended when they use that kind of advertising. Are there any other NC folks here that feel that way? I'm sorry, I know this is a little silly. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am bored at work.

That doesn't really bother me if it is actually cajun food (I've never heard of Bojangles). If someone opened a Carolina style BBQ joint in La, it wouldn't bother me if they said it was Carolina BBQ (which is pretty good IMO).

Carolina BBQ (which is pretty good IMO).

indeed.....my parents live outside of raleigh.....2 of my sisters live in raleigh.....i have had my share of carolina bbq.....it's pretty good

although there is a bojangle's about 10 minutes from my mom's house, i have never tried it when i was there.....maybe next time

"Cajun" is thrown around too loosely.

Exactly! I think I am just missing home or something. I don't really like when a restaurant from, let's say, Virginia takes a ckicken breast, throws way too much cayenne pepper on it, slaps it between to slices of bread and calls it a cajun chicken club or whatever. I will go there for lunch and ask them what a Cajun is and why would they would name their fried chicken after my entire Buras/Burat family tree.

Hey! What's that supposed to mean:rant:?! No........sadly, you're right :covri:. Bojangle's > Popeyes though.

Carolina BBQ is good, but that's not the point. "Cajun food" or a more proper term, "Creole food" would be much more believable if those who cooked it knew what it was.

Eh, not really. Some of the Popeyes in VA suck because they don't make the chicken spicy enough, but overall I'd say

Popeyes>Bojangles>Churches>>>>>>>KFC

Exactly. Ask them what "cajun" means. What spices are used? Most don't have a clue.

The problem is that people don't recognize the difference between "hot" and "spicy." Hot sauce and cayenne are not spicy, they're hot. Spicy is when you eat some authentic LA gumbo and you feel a little kick as it goes down from the different herbs and spices, not a burning sensation on your tongue that you get from chili peppers and hot sauce.

Cajun = Spicy
Tex Mex = Hot

Checking Bojangles' menu...

Cajun Filet Biscuit
Cajun Filet Sandwich
Cajun Pintos™

Dirty Rice™...That would be the deal breaker for me. If it ain't right, it ain't right. And who the heck do they think they are, trademarking the term "dirty rice"?

Bojangles' * Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits

Before I left South Louisiana for the Marine Corps, "Ooh-Rah", I wasn't very familiar with this "Cajun food". But as I went abroad, I found many true-blue creole restaurants, like Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday's which opened my eyes to a world of food I had never seen before. Sarcasm off!

Cajun = people

Creole Cuisine = food
