Bradshaw worried about dropoff in our running game (1 Viewer)

Both Washington and Atlanta seemed to want to take away our running game. And both got beat by the pass. We also haven't had our full complement of healthy RBs in either game. Our pass-run ratio was 61-39, which isn't bad for us. I think if Bell hadn't been hurt, he would've been hammering it home on the final 2 drives. PT just isn't a bruiser who can pop defenders when there's 8-9 in the box.

im not as worried about our running game as much as im worried about drew throwing the ball 40 times a game.....he throws so we cant run....we are still getting the job done on the ground but we are getting away from it so early that its almost useless to have a running game

Last two weeks -

The Redskins may be horrible but they have an excellent Defense.

The Falcons horrible secondary so what would you do if you had the number one Offense? AND if you didn't notice the Saints were still successful in picking up short yardage.

No real reason for concern.

drew threw 49 times against washington.....and 40 times against the falcons

PT, reggie and bell ran the ball 23 times against the redskins

they ran the ball 19 times against the falcons

we cant have that balanced offense if we dont commit to it

payton is getting impatient IMO

Our running backs had a 4.04 ypc avg. (93 yds on 23 carries)

I'm glad Hamilton got in there and got a few carries. If Bell has to sit again this week it'll give Payton more confidence that Hamilton can get in there and pound the rock.

I've been a little concerned about this myself the last two games ...

Whatever the stats might say I feel like we haven't been as effective on the grounbd since Heath Evans went down.

He was blowing open some big creases and we were getting through the line untouched sometimes.

Seems like I've seen less of that since he's been out.

We were really a machine when Evans was in and the defense was fully healthy.

We can still move the ball and score on anyone but if feels like that little drop off in the run game combined with the injuries on defense has made us a little more vulnerable.

But between Drew AND Sean Payton I have faith that one way or another the offense will be productive. It's down to getting the D tightened up again.

I think our run game has suffered since we lost #44. we are not running out of the power I anymore, we are doing more offset I formations with Thomas as the H-back. we signed a fullback and cut him last week.

This just happens to coincide with our defense looking like last year's. IMO our offense is going to the pass more because Payton knows our defense is banged up and can't make any stops. Case in point, we've forced only 3 3-and-outs in the past 3 games, none yesterday. Our defense isn't getting off the field so we're doing what we do best.

With respect to the last two games, the Defense has not been able to get off the field a lot and that hurts the TOP and the running game. Additionally, I think the past two opponents have good run defenses and really focused on taking it away. Against Washington, we were never in the lead and were playing from behind the whole second half. That too will affect the running game.

At least part of the run game issue is that games have been close and we haven't been going into an extended 7 minute kneel down like early in the season and in the Patriots game.

our running game would keep our defense off the field

the passing game is the best way to get our defense right back on the field

the passing game is designed to score quick....that means our defense doesnt get to rest....our defense is required to make more stops because they are on the field more and our offense cant control the clock

If opposing defenses are trying to stuff the run, then you pass. Which is better, a long drive for 3 points or a quick drive for 7 points? Our defense right now can't get off the field when rested so that's a garbage excuse. Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa Bay, New England, Washington, and Atlanta have marched down the field and scored on the first drive of the game quite often the past few weeks. In that stretch, only St. Louis didn't.

Atlanta also has a horrible secondary so it makes sense to attack them with the pass, especially with Drew Brees.
