Brandin Cooks (1 Viewer)

Cooks plays scared.

So does every other 5'9" WR not named Steve Smith.

Watch TY Hilton play. Or John Brown. Or Antonio Brown.

These types of receivers avoid contact. Always will. People are going have to get over it.

I'll go a bit further with that.

Apart from Smitty, receivers that size who haven't mastered the art of avoiding wicked collisions are usually criticized for being injured too often.

Yeah, I understand trying to save a smaller bodied player from hits to preserve health, but it's not just that... there is zero aggressiveness and very little toughness to his game. He doesn't even try to gain YAC even when they're there, he doesn't do everything he can to make catches, he doesn't go 100% as a blocker, he usually drops contested catches, and if it's not right there in his face, he does very little to lay out or try to make an athletic play on the ball.

Please don't take this as a slam on Cooks, because I really like the kid and want to see him be dominant. These are just a few observations I have made while watching him play. Football is a very aggressive sport, you can't be passive and finesse all the time. If you don't have that aggressive, I'm going dominate everybody mindset, you have no chance.

Not being at the game, I can't say for certain, but it certainly looked as though had he not been right up against the sideline on that long throw from Brees, he'd have been in the endzone for a 98 yard (or thereabouts) TD.

I do recall that there is like 3 or 4 other guys on the field that can receive the ball right? You guys forget that Brees missed Cooks on a few throws that could have gone for big yards. He missed him on a 2 crossing routes that could have gone for big yards. He missed Cooks on a deep pass that was just one finger tip from his reach. If these catches were made, there wouldn't be a discussion about his so call "lack of big plays". This is all about executions and it hasn't happened just yet. One players that really need to step up that will be majorly huge for this offense to get really going is Brandon Coleman. He made one great catch but we need him to do it more often. Marques Colston made a game saving catch but if he continue to be consistent in catching instead of dropping, then this offense will be very good again.

Snead has the ability to be the guy that counters Cooks. Coleman getting more reps means only good thing for us, and it almsot seems like Colstons confidence is shaken.

We all need to remember that as awesome as Drew is, all of his passes are not perfect, and it also doesn't help that the O-line has not been consistent in the protection they are providing.

Would I like to see more YAC from Cooks? Of course, but I also don't want to see him get pancaked and sidelined because that would only hurt the team.

From what I have seen, it looks as if the mojo is just now starting to come together, both offensively and defensively, and that SHOULD be a wonderful thing

I wonder how DC's plan for Julio Jones, Brandon Marshall...or smaller WRs like DeAndre Hopkins, Steve Smith or TY Hilton...I am sorry but I hate the rolled coverage gameplan excuses. Every legit #1 WR gets this type of attention yet they get open and make plays.

He's either good enough or he's not. Enough excuses.

Didn't Julio have a bit of an off game recently, lol? I wonder if Falcons fans, if they really have any, are worried?

You bring up Smith. It took him 4 years to post over 60 receptions. It took Antonio Brown 4 years to even get to the #1 spot on his team.

TY Hilton - I promise, when the guy single covering Cooks falls down twice in the same game, Cooks will go for 150yds and 2 TD's.

Y'all get off of Cooks. He's not even close to being an issue on this underperforming offense.

I dont see what everyone else is seeing. Cooks has plenty speed and shiftyness, what I see is playcalling that is predicated on Cooks making the play. I thought the way he was used vs the Colts is the way he should of always been played where he was used more in the traditional role where you saw him run slants, screens and deep routes..he was sued all over the field and had Brees connected on a couple of those early deep balls it would of been a very big game for him.

That's what's wrong with 'Murica... too many lawsuits :mwink:

This isn't suppose to be happening to a burner like Cooks. Maybe his ankle injury still ails him ?[/QUOTE]

Someone gets it.

If I am formulating a gameplan against the Saints passing game, I take away Brandin Cooks and make you beat me with Watson, Snead, Spiller, and co. We really don't have an outside threat to roll coverages away from Cooks right now. He will still win some matchups because of his incredible skillset, but we need another weapon on the outside for him to maximize his potential.
Snead has played better than Cooks so far. As of right now, Snead has been more of a threat than Cooks. I mean, if Cooks can't outrun a 2nd string CB to the first down that's only 5 yards away, then there's nothing else that can be said.

I wish other teams would think that way. While yes you have stated a fact he has been our most productive WR at this time but he isn't more of a threat than cooks.

You have got to be kidding me.:jpshakehead:

Antonio Brown avoids contact for different reasons than Cooks or Brown does. He avoids contact to squeeze out those extra few yards, the guy has crazy agility. But he's not scared to dish out hits or take them. Remember the spartan kick to the Brown's kicker last year? Or seen some of his stiff arms to guys twice his size?

Antonio Brown is always fun to watch.
