Brandon Flowers as a FS ? (1 Viewer)

I thought he was a CB?????

he is but lots of teams are looking at him as a Safety because of the physicailty which he plays with and the lack of Safeties in this draft. some have even said he could be a Bob Sanders type player from the S position

I also think by drafting him it can be a win win
situation because if it looks like the competion at CB in front of him looks a little
stronger you can try him out at FS just to get him on the field
because I believe this guy has a lot of big play making ability.

I disagree 100%. If the competition at CB in front of him is stronger, we drafted wrong. Plain and simple. If we spend our round 1 choice on a CB, in the process passing up on Rivers or the chance to trade up for Dorsey/Ellis, and that CB whom we are depending on to fill our other desperate need is so bad at it that Gay/David/Craft beat him out to the point you want to move him to Safety, then we just screwed up at a time in the draft when we could have had ANY corner.

who are these teams and who are the some that say this???
not to question you, but this almost sounds like a fox "news" story...
-
he is a ligit man corner that is in the mold of MM...

i read the same thing myself. i don't recall where it could have well been Fox News that reported

His playing style, mixed with his lack of elite CB foot speed, 4.5, would make him a great FS in my opinion.

the fox "news" reference was from 2001 when fox would report the fox point of view as fact and would justify it by saying some say, and most believe, without stating who some and most were...

i have not read a thing that supports moving flowers to safety, though there could be something out there. i really dont understand why you would take a player that has shown an ability to play physical man to man and move him further from the point of attack or take him off of an island where he would be most beneficial to the team. he is a tough nose tackler and gives great run support, but that is in the context of CB. just seems a waste to me...

what is MMs 40 time? 4.5 is not slow especially when you are an aggressive bump coverage guy. two tenths of a second can quickly be made up when you jam the guy at the line (see MM). His playing style makes him much more valuable face to face with a wide out and not playing in space...

We need a corner and a FS, so why not?

I've been a big fan of Flowers. Due to what happened at their campus, VT games were usually on every weekend. He is a beast and I think Mayock has him as his #1 corner in this year's draft.

THE GUY IS NOT A SAFETY!!!
THIS IS NOT MADDEN, YOU AN NOT JUST PLUG A GUY IN WHEREVER AND EXPECT IT TO WORK!!!
HIS STYLE AND ABILITY IS CONDUCIVE FOR AGGRESSIVE MAN TO MAN BUMP AND RUN COVERAGE!!!
Mayock having him as the number 1 rated corner should tell you that he is not a safety!!!

he looked awful against lsu and didnt do much vs kansas (iirc). hard to judge vs BC as matt ryan is horrible and played horrible in that game.

highlight vid looks good but im certainly not that high on this guy or the other corner on that team, macho.....?

While I understand that he knows more than I do about draftees, Mayock is a quack. He tries to be edgy and different with his rankings and it usually does not work in his favor. I would take him rating player X #1 at his position with a truck of salt.

he didnt look bad against LSU at all. he held doucet to 75 yards and that isnt bad when you consider LSU had the ball for 10 minutes more than VT.. the score was lopsided because LSU hung 297 yards rushing and the defense was absolutely sick, pounding VT...

18 Flowers, B solo tackles 8 assist 1 total 9 tackles for loss 2

horrible???

horrible???

he got smoked on a couple of td's. he did nothing of value except get beat.

and he wasnt on doucet all game long. premier corners arent supposed to get shalacked by opposing offenses.

which TDs???
well there were only 2 thrown and one was to a RB, so I am quite positive he wasnt covering him. He did get beat on a fantastic play by doucet, but name a corner that hasnt gotten beat and doucet was considered the best WR in the draft before the injury...

01:36 LS - Early Doucet 34 yd pass from Ryan Perrilloux

8 tackles and 2 for a loss is something i could consider value...

oh and he had a pick in the BC game and his kansas stats werent bad at all!!! The TOs killed VA Tech in that game, not brandon flowers...

8 tackles, 2 tfl is a solid game no doubt in that sense. however, we passed all over that team and he nor his buddies could do anything about it. and we ran the ball all day. we could have thrown more had we needed to but basically shut the offense down after the first half.

and against kansas they gave up a decent amount of yardage through the air.

no doubt he is a good player but i dont think he is one of the top corners available. i see him as being not *that* much better than chevis with similar physical skills. chevis may be a better ballhawk and flowers a better tackler
