Bucs OC Liam Coen as a HC candidate [interviewed with Jags on Jan. 15] (11 Viewers)

Seems very clear that Ben Johnson will go to either Bears or Pats, IF he wants...
Vrabel will get either Pats (depending on Johnson) or Jets
Jags--no idea, but that might be our real competition for Coen...or possibly Raiders?

In the end, I think Johnson is going to the Jags and Vrabel to the Patriots. Hoping the Jets hire Glenn, because I don't want him with the Saints.

I don't think Johnson will go to the Bears due to GM Poles. If ownership changes their mind and fires Poles, than yes the Bears make sense.

Coen I’d be good with. Young, upcoming. Has made immediate success. Been under some very good head coaches. This is what I’m hoping Loomis is looking at

I can't see Johnson going to Jags--for the exact reason you mention the Bears, he's not attaching himself to a lame-duck GM...and that is clearly Trent Balke...possibly Poles, too?

You make a great point, but I think ownership there will get rid of Balke or demote him to appease Johnson. I think what makes the Jags attractive to Johnson are security and resources.

It's the hot trend today, but I don't think it will last.

It was considerably different years ago. Weis was the OC for Brady (a 6th round QB) for his first four years as a starter, and they racked up three SB wins with three top-10 scoring offenses before Weis finally got an HC opportunity--at Notre Dame.

Coen has one good year with Mayfield and he's already getting HC consideration.

Coen was pretty good at Kentucky and with the Rams.

I'm really curious to know the true back stories on why we aren't interviewing Coen or Johnson. I know we have heard that Johnson said "no thanks", but even if that is true, Coen is not in a position to turn away interviews. Is there something about him that our FO doesn't like?

Don't know about Johnson, but it probably has to do with our QB situation. Rumor is he turned down the interview.

As far as Coen, apparently DA tried to interview him his first year but Coen refused the interview. We then offered him the job without an interview and he turned that down to go work for McVay. Then last year Coen apparently wanted an interview when we were replacing Carmichael, but DA refused the interview. So, I'm thinking there could be some bad blood one way or the other.

Underhill provided that info. He didn't say there was bad blood, but the way he was talking it sounded like it was personal one way or another.

Thanks for sharing, I had not heard that. Seems petty if true, but we're talking about human beings with big egos, so anything is possible.

It does sound petty but then again if a guy doesn't get along with your GM or some members of your front office it would be hard for them to build a team together. Too bad because I like the McVay branch of the Shanahan/Kubiak system. But, I do like the potential of the other young OCs like Brady and Moore, or Kingsbury who isn't that young anymore.
