Poor boy, about to be on his 5th team in like 6 years. What did Andy Dalton do to deserve this fate? I salute him for generally playing good enough last season, at least most of the time. He’s a billion times better than many Saints starting QBs (cough: Danny Wuerffel). I wish him well on the free agent trail.

I believe his issue is he's good enough to remain in the league as a backup but no longer good enough for people to want him as their starter/pay him like a starter. I bear him no ill will.

Winston is a competent back-up that was going to be a line item on our payroll no matter what; he may as well do so from our bench.

Dalton on the other hand would add another line item to the payroll, and with Carr and Winston already there, that extra line item just isn't worth it.

3-7 over his 1st 10...13.6 ppg over the last 8
1.2 TDs a game.

He's rich he'll be OK.

That damn Arizona game ...

He played like a reserve qb who have to be a starter for a season ,and he cant do this anymore

I put Andy in a special category of Saints quarterbacks: the brief tenure, also known as the era that almost was!
Who can forget the following non-eras?
-The Kerry Collins era of the late 90s
-The Richard Todd era of the mid-80s
-the Jake Delhomme era!! (my favorite non-era)
-and of course the Mike Buck era

Plus the spot could be better occupied by a young player.

Except that Nola Swede posted that the Saints offered Dalton a one year deal and he turned it down. It appeared this took place prior to offering Winston a deal, unless you believe they would make offers to both simultaneously.

I'd take Dalton over Todd & Collins (at least the time Collins was here) any day of the week, for whatever that's worth

Me too!
I only included QBs who at least had a shred of either potential or prior success. I left off the QBs who never had any potential or history of success.
Except I forgot Jeff Blake. He should have a mini-epoch of his own.
