I don’t think it was an exit strategy. Duncan confirmed that after his year off Payton wanted to come back and coach the Saints but Loomis wanted to stick with Allen and that’s when Payton got his approval to speak with other teams.

Yeah, this was rumored here lightly. And after we lost that game to Tampa to lose the division it absolutely should have happened. That was when I bought the domain FireDennisAllen.net, which I was thankfully able to let expire.

The results are not typical because we had a HOF level coach.....I never said injuries don't matter, of course they do, but great coaches find ways to win despite them.....

Of course talent matters and of course coaching doesn't overcome everything but it makes a huge difference.....do you honestly think we wouldn't have won division titles the last few years if CSP were here? I don't, 1-2 additional wins in a season can be the difference between being in the playoffs and staying home....

This argument is like the Steelers fans who want to fire Tomlin bc he is taking average teams with trash QBs to the playoffs most years and losing. Dude is an HOF coach, if you didn't have him, you'd be the 2024 Saints with a better cap situation. HoF coaches aren't quite as important as players, but it's pretty damned close. All the more reason the Saints should have never let SP leave the building.

Totally agreed.....IF that story is true that CSP wanted to come back but ML wasn't interested then I want ML as far away from the Saints as possible....

You never let a Tomlin, Reid or CSP walk.....
