Link: Remembering Tom Dempsey (1947-2020)--Special Produced 10/8/2010

This vid was produced by William Taylor. Most Saints fans have seen some of the more popular clips about kicker Tom Dempsey, but few have seen THIS consolidation of Dempsey’s legacy. Vid only has <3600 views as of 3-16-2025.

Many WhoDats weren’t alive back in 1970, but they’ve heard about Tom Dempsey through older relatives and Old School WhoDat dawgs.

The video is long (run time: 47:05), but man, oh man does it deliver. A few spots (here & there) may rate “Kleenex Alert.”

The producer even threw in surprising lagniappe at the end: No spoiler alert; you’ll see for yourself.

If you bleed 🩸 Black & Gold… you’ll enjoy it… I certainly did! WhoDat!

Peace, out! 😎 🏈

The thing about Dempsey is that after his career was over, he stayed in the New Orleans area and called it home.

I did get to know him after his playing days were over. Our kids played ball together.

A genuinely humble and a very nice man.

My old boss from a courier job I worked in college went to that game with her husband.....they left before the kick.....

What’s your favorite fishing 🎣 spot?

We have been hitting the chef. Hope Dale is too far of a ride from midcity. We are launched and enjoying the water at the chef in 1/2 hour.
Midsummer we usually hit hopedale or des allemans( fresh water).

Thanks for the video! I forwarded it over to Mr Tom’s son.

I lucked my way into getting his autograph about 22-ish years ago when I got a job at the same automotive industry consulting firm he was working at the time. Did the gig to avoid working foodservice or retail (again) to pay bills during college.

By all accounts, he was a gentle giant of a guy who'd do anything for ya. That kick was before I was born, but it's still easily a top-10 moment in Saints franchise history ⚜️ (y)

My BIL typically launches out of Hopedale, which is cool but when I was fishing with my Dad in the mid 70s through the late 80's (and a few times in the 90's and later) we always launched out of Pointe ala Hache or Delicroix, better spots and more fish IMO.....would love to hit Bay Jack Nevette, False River, Pointe Fienne or Wreck Bay, again, used to be full of trout, reds, etc.....

That area is unrecognizable now from then.
Islands that were once there are gone. Just open water way inland.
It’s crazy
