Can De La puente and the O-Line duplicate last weeks performance vs 49ers?? (1 Viewer)

Running the ball for 30 times for 120 yds is 4 yds/carry average. We do that we win. Running the ball 25 times for 100yds is the exact same average.

I agree with you, if we can achieve a 4 yard per carry average and run it in the 25-30 range, we should be very successful offensively.

In that case, I agree with Alaina, I think Drew gets his 300+ yards and probably 2-3 TDs and no Ints.

Niners will run... but then again, everyone here on sports radio has been saying that Kap has to start slinging it more.... I heard steve young today saying that the niners offense has been contracting from week 2... and that they have to open up the offense.

I will not be surprised if niners come out throwing (provided Vernon Davis plays) or they let Kap run more by himself. Right now they have bottled him up so much that if he can't get to his 2nd read, he freezes. They will have get back to designed runs for Kapernick.

Hopefully Rob Ryan has the game plan for either version of their offense - run heavy or more passes and option like they played against GB in the season opener.

I doubt they have the same results as against the girls.
What I am hoping for is that the O-line does their job and blocks as a unit like they did.
I am no expert but what I saw was an O-line that picked up their assignments and a FB that did the same. What I saw was play calling that had a great mix of run vs pass.
If they do that it will be a good indicator of their progress and the total running yards will tell what they can really do.
I personally think they continue to block as a team.

Do you think if we limit Gore and the Niners to 120 yards rushing it will be a win? What if they rush for 200 yards? Not the same is it?

We wont duplicate the same performance. Those 242 yards rushing may have been the most by a Saints team in the Payton era. We are talking about a 1/100 type rushing performance. We had the longest streak in the NFL without a 100 yard rusher going into the game and one of the leagues worst rushing offenses. To do it twice in two weeks and the odds skyrocket out of control. To do it twice in two weeks and the second time against a 49'ers team that has held us to 96 yards rushing COMBINED the last two times we played them and the odds get really close to impossible.

I'll be thrilled if we can rush 25 times for a 100 yards with very few negative plays.

This^

This makes the 3rd time in a few hours Ive heard this. Seems Kap looks to his 1st read too much. So even if Vernon Davis plays, the Saints will likely bracket him like they did Dez Bryant.

The Niners will wanna run the ball to keep our O off the field as much as possible. They wanna keep down and distance makeable, which gives them a chance at some shots, maybe deep ones, with playaction.

But this game will hinge on our O taking care of the ball.....and Drew. Of course he wont admit it, but this IS a big game, and you best believe he really wants this one!

If anybody's gonna come out slinging, its gonna be #9!

If we can do that in every game I think we would win. I think our two losses so far would have been won with 40 more rushing yards.

The question is, does the o-line have the potential to play better than it has? Does the Dallas game do anything for them? I loved watching the game, there is nothing more awesome to watch than the Saints offense scoring like they did Sunday night... But if Ware was at 90% rather than at less than half strength. He might have sacked Drew 10 times with Charles Brown blocking him.

It doesn't mean we can't run the ball. I think we can. Payton has to stick with it, even if our average isn't 10 yards a carry. If we rush for a 100 yards and don't turn the ball over, I think we can beat anyone.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them rush for more yards than many expect. Our running game isn't as bad as it has been so far nor as good as it looked last week. That said, over an entire season things will average out. Colston is finally looking like himself which opens things up, Ingram has a lot to prove, and the Saints are at home. With McDonald out for the Niners their middle will soften up and Aldon Smith is a good pass rusher but vulnerable against the run. We should get them guessing and take this game going away. Ingram jerseys for all!!!!!!!
