Can the Saints find a QB of the future in later rounds? Last year, the Falcons, Vikings and Broncos all invested in 1st round QB's for their franchise's future...

Just an interesting observation - of the 32 NFL starting QB’s:
24 QB’s were picked in the 1st Round
7 QB’s were NOT picked in the 1st round
1 QB TBD - Pittsburgh Steelers who don’t have a starting QB at this time (but if the QB is Aaron Rogers, then the 1st round QB’s bump up to 25 total).

Jalen Hurts – 2nd round
Will Levis – 2nd round
Derek Carr -2nd round
Geno Smith – 2nd round
Russell Wilson – 3rd round
Dak Prescott – 4th round
Brock Purdy – 7th round
**Pittsburgh – QB TBD

The "waiting until later rounds" method historically just doesn't work. It's rarely ever ever worked. If the Saints want a QB, they are going to need to draft one in round one.

Prospects Skip Pre-Draft Tests + Finding Difference Makers at WR and QB

One of the best convos you'll hear on it was the recent Move The Sticks podcast around the 18:00 mark on. Brilliant.

Just warm yourself up to the idea that we are taking a QB in the 1st. I’ve already prepared myself
I’m good with it if for no other reason than I’ve never seen em do it in my 45 years of being a fan lol. Take a swing, all good.

As an aside, just thought about 2 of the top 5 ever not being first rounders. That’s pretty wild.
Brees was a second round pick and Brady I think was a 6th round choice?

Just an FYI - Drew Brees was pick #32; which was the first pick of round #2.

I loved the comment Daniel Jeremiah said about drafting QB's - I would rather miss on greatness... than hit on average. In both cases, you are still looking for a QB. Bottom line is you need to gamble on drafting greatness - and that means drafting in the first round.

No, if the plan is to take someone this year. My position is that you're not serious if you're not making a first, or second-round investment. If you like Sanders, make move to get him after 3. If you like Dart, go get him in the teens. If you like the Syracuse or Louisville kid, go get them in the 2nd.

I think this is why more Round 2 and higher QBs hit besides the talent that justifies being drafted that high. It's the draft capital. If you're spending a 2nd or higher on a draft pick, they are going to get more opportunities than someone who is drafted later unless that guy comes in and just flat out wins the position.
