I just got the heart to watching the Seattle game and the one thing that stood out to me was the importance of a good receiving back to this offense.... Bush specifically has several check downs that he took a 4 yard catch and ran for a 1st down... I realize that everyone wants a back that can run 20 times for 135 yards and grind it out but I think a back like Bush is every bit as important...
In the zone defense, the underneath defenders have a choice, get deep and take away the bottom side of the deeper routes but this gives a quick RB a chance to pick up valuable yards underneath.. NOT big yards, but 5 yards that puts you in 3rd and 2 or a 1st down if they're really quick and slippery...
I realize that Bush's value is far less then his current contract but not only do I think the Saints will resign him but they will overpay a lil for him... I feel his value should be somewhere around $3MM to $4MM but I think he could get $5MM... I think that if they had another option to fill that spot they could consider it but I don't think there is another option like Bush in FA and to get a guy like Devine would cost a draft choice that they may not be willing to part with and a position that needs some experience...
So in summary, I think the Saints need a back with Bush's skills set and if they can't get one, which I don't know who would come in and do it, they will be forced to over pay Bush...
