Meant to post this awhile ago

NFL Network had an interesting conversation a few weeks ago about the college player closest to their heart

Someone picked Rocket Ishmael, another picked Desmond Howard, someone picked a linebacker I’d never heard of

I don’t watch college football, and I’m only really aware of college players from here leading up to the draft

Who is your all time favorite college player?

Maybe he went on to stardom in the NFL or was a journeyman or maybe even a bust, maybe he was drafted by Atlanta and became dead to you

But no matter what his NFL career looked like because of what he did in college he will always be magic to you

Didn’t Rocket Ishmael play for the Saints? I wanna say I remember that name but I would have been in junior high back then.

Prob Peyton Manning since I got to watch his whole college career here at Tennessee. Went to most of his games here and met him several times during that period.

A bit of a random reference, but I can remember back to the early '80s and Reggie Reginelli, the RB at Tulane who had a memorably good game in Tulane's famous upset of LSU in 1982.

As for LSU players, I'd say Rohan Davey. He had the most insanely accurate deep ball I've ever seen. Once randomly met him in the concourse of the Dome during a Saints game when he was still at LSU. Went on to back up Brady in New England for a few years.

Non-La.-connected players, I'd have to say a tie between Turner Gill and Tommie Frazier, both Nebraska QBs in the '80s and '90s. Probably the two best veer-option QBs to ever play college ball, mainly because they were good throwers of the football as well.

Qadry, “The Missile” returned kicks for the Saints in 1998.

Corey Webster is my answer to the question. The Saints took Josh Bullocks three picks before CW was selected. He wound up having a really good nine-year career with the Giants. The Saints needed an upgrade at CB2 and FS, so I understood, but I hoped CW would be the choice.

Really liked Justin Vincent for LSU. Went to Barbe here in Lake Charles then helped LSU when their 2nd national title helping them reestablish themselves in college football.

2 years in the CFL then the Raiders, Panthers, and Cowboys.

“Bo Knows” Jackson.

I rarely got to see him play since I was on Navy deployments most of his college playing time, but he always seemed to be the best player on the field when I did.

Thankfully Tampa pissed him off and he refused to sign with them after he was the #1 pick for them.

I have a bunch. Ricky Williams literally knocking Aggies out was so fun to watch. I remember like yesterday watching the draft and jumping up and down that the Saints had traded up to draft him. That was immediately followed by me going "they gave up what!?!".
