Yes, I'm a WVU fan but this isn't a homer thread.
I've always felt Jeff Fisher didn't know how to use
him. In reality, I think he ruined him like the Jets
ruin qbs.
This kid is one of the best players I've ever seen on
a football field. Scheme is everything and the Rams
basically use him as a decoy.
There's a good chance he could be cut soon as the new
regime has brought in wrs of their own choosing.
If we need a slot receiver, he's one heckuva an option.
He's the kinda player the Pats would pick up and make
him a star.
If the price was right, would you consider it?
I believe a fresh start would do him justice.
He could be a nite mare with coach payton
utilizing his skill set.
Thoughts?

How many jokers does it take to make a full house? I have no clue what his price will be, but if it's on the low end, then we could always use another playmaker. He returns punts so there is that. But glancing over his stats, one number jumps out at me. 21 fumbles. That's an issue.

If they cut him and the price is right, sure. They signed him to a really bad contract a couple years ago.

8/27/2016: Signed a six-year, $56.14 million contract. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed. Another $10 million is available through incentives. 2018: $3 million (+ $5 million roster bonus), 2019: $9.35 million, 2020: $9.56 million, 2021: $9.22 million, 2022: Free Agent

How'd he do with McVay? Answer's itself. No thanks

Underhill said the Saints divide up their prospects into three groups: wants, needs, and must-haves. I don't think Tavon Austin fits even the "want' category. Ted Ginn Jr. fits the slot receiver role fine, and I would not want to see the Saints continuing to go after smallish receivers. For too many of these guys (in contrast to Ginn) the speed advantage is diminished by the way smallish receivers just get crunched. Brandin Cooks in the Super Bowl is the latest example.

If Austin's agent is any good, he'll get Tavon a better and another "potential" contract with a team that has gobs of cap money.

I think the Saints will add another good receiver, but I think he will be similar to Devery or Meachem in size and skill.

Rams fans aren't missing him terribly from what I see. But one thing that got my attention is the Rams might cut Robert Quinn to make room to sign guys like Joyner.

Sounds like he has worse issues getting yards after catch than Brandin Cooks.

I'd pass.

Hell yes! I'll take Austin over Tommylee without a second thought.

The question is: how much Austin's salary will be compared to Tommylee's? Or even to a potential rookie?

I really don't want to increase the budget for wide receivers. By the way things are going, Mike Thomas will be demanding a top-5 salary for the position. We won't be able to afford much besides him.

This, while we could use him the upgrade immediately stops becoming an upgrade when his cap hit is bigger than all the other WR's currently on the roster. Also he's got a skillset/size that we all ready have on the roster in Ginn/TLL. All of them the 5'9-5'11 175-190 variety.

Would rather a Paul Richardson or over 6'0 WR.

Ginn doesn't really play the slot (only 17.6% of his snaps were in the slot). He's usually wide.

Fischer made the guy a top 5 paid WR, unreal.
If Sean McVay saw no use for him then I can't imagine there's much there-
Rather draft a KR specializing WR in the draft or sign one post draft.

How many players have we seen that were awesome in college, but non factors in the pros? Tavon Austin is just another example of such a player.

He's too small for the pros, and those 21 fumbles prove it. That is an incredible number of fumbles in 5 years, especially since he only gained 500yds once in all that time. That's a lot of risk for very little reward. Turnovers cost you games, forget about his lack of production, it's all about his 21 fumbles. Just NO.
