According to Nola.com, The SAINTS announced the signings of running back Malcolm Brown, defensive end Scott Patchan and center Nick Martin. To make room for the signings, the Saints waived punter Daniel Whelan, offensive linemen Derek Schweiger and defensive back Jordan Miller

Would have preferred someone else over Brown. Has never shown much.

Why? He’s a proven NFL caliber player with a SB ring! If he can provide solid depth and ST support, why would you want him gone just to be gone?
He’s far more proven than Smoke Monday
Your point would be valid if Smoke was slotted to start. Please understand, I am not trying to be negative towards you, but Sorensen was not playing well when he departed from KC. I'd rather have an ascending player, than one on the rapid decline.

As the Great Titan Thanos once questioned "Well...If you consider failure experience"

The Sorensen signing made little sense given the timing...if we absolutely needed the help, he'd still be available today had we not signed him back then.

Easy. He's a known commodity. If he were to be cut after rookies have been in camp only a week, it would be a great sign that one of the rookies, for example Smoke Monday, has shown enough to allow them to let go of Sorenson early.

You want him gone because despite being NFL caliber (your words), he is
1. a more expensive player than a rookie
2. a known commodity who is either at his ceiling or declining
3. holding a roster spot that could go to a more talented, but perhaps green, young player
4. apparently very annoying to Mathieu, LOL.

There's all kinds of tweets on this subject.

I give you a Like for the Thanos reference. Well played.

Brown has been basically been a backup that can move the chains. Just a journeyman running back at this point.

Martin gives me some comfort that if someone goes down in the middle of the O line, it will be more a matter of plug and play than a matter of plug, shuffle, and pray.

I don't really have any expectations of Patchan.

Let's get to tomorrow today.

I guess this means Brown beat out Howard, Scarbrough, and Victor. That's disappointing.

I doubt Brown "beat them out". Maybe he did... I don't know. My guess is Victor may have wanted more money than the Saints were willing to pay.

Same with Odom. I doubt Scott Patchan is a better player than Odom, but the depth chart says Odom would be the 5th or 6th defensive end, but he may have wanted too much money.
