I love the comments on this thread, but I'm a bit surprised that there hasn't been any mention of how much of an impact that coach Ryan Nielsen will have on Davenport's development.

Yep I agree. It’s just another reason why giving up a first in 2019 doesn’t bother me. We got a guy that needs some work, but has seriously elite athletic traits, a non stop motor, the proven ability to learn quickly, and a great support system on the saints including Cam Jordan to learn from and the guy who provides the path for Cams best year Nielsen.

Where people freaking out Cam Jordan only got 1 sack in 2011 or was we too distracted by the offense or something? I honestly don't remember anything about Jordan rookie year...

I think people will criticize him a little more for the amount given up for him. Unfair for him but it's the truth.

Well, that is just people here. Ready for the premature Davenport suck thread when he doesn't get 5 sacks, 1 FF, Pick Six, Passing TD, and win the 2020 Democratic Nomination for Presidency in Week 1. The bias against certain players on here is usually immediate after drafting them much like Ingram. It's either Davenport shut them up Day 1 or he'll forever being a polarizing character.

I hear ya but the norm is THIS IS THE YEAR. Like I said before, it's not the guys fault. It's anyone's guess what the coaches expect from him this year.

Coach Neilson is such a great teacher and understands what needs to happen with every kind of move.
Can't wait to see how he professes through the year. After seeing the rev's video on T-rex you can see how much he improved. Davenport has more physical talent so I'm excited to see what he can do.

No one freaked out about Cam’s rookie year because Jordan wasn’t expected to come in and get double digit sacks. He was supposed to be a guy that would anchor against the run and get you 7 or 8 sacks a year. Cam WAY , WAY overachieved for us

Davenport will have an immediate impact thanks to his size and athleticism, rotating in with players like Hendrickson, Lowen and Okafor he won't have to be a complete player immediately because of our depth.

With all the talent that Ryan Nielsen has to work with, he will be a hot commodity in the next year or two. We have to be aware and keep our franchise's talents for continuity stability. Look how many years Pittsburgh and Dick LeBeau benefited.
My statement includes Jeff Ireland who in my opinion has made a big difference in finding talent to fill our roster in just the past few years.

Coach Nielsen's hiring had me the most excited. Because I knew we had talent on the D-line. Glad to see he's getting it to work. Can't wait to see how this year goes

I interpretated character issues as behavioral problems. But I guess you are right
