Gronk, this season, has been referred to as an “extra tackle” on shows I listen to on Fox. The comment made about him(Gronk) being a “superior blocker” is more than fair and I’m not sure where the confusion is??

He wasn’t vague about what he was stating.
Not unfair at all, neither is it unfair for Mamba to state the truth that a TE shouldn’t be able to block him, ever. No matter who the TE is. As he also stated, it’s a matchup we will take 10/10.

Yes, Gronk is an excellent blocker. For a tight end. You guys are acting like he’s Anthony Munoz or something.

Blocking Marcus Davenport is a difficult task for any elite Tackle in the league. And a near-impossible task for Gronk.

Davenport did what we should’ve expected him to do - manhandle the guy.
Hey I'm with you. Ideally you don't want your TE manned up against a beast like Dav. If that's where Gronk is now then the staff should've never put him in that position. But Gronk has routinely gone man to man with DEs in the past. He did it last year against us. Stoned Cam a few times.

I'm not saying it was every play like a Tackle but the Pats and Bucs regularly trusted Gronk to take care of a DE mano a mano.

Got it.

I would just make a distinction between realizing Gronk is capable of doing an adequate job against a DE,…

and on the other hand, reacting to the play as if Davenport accomplished something insurmountable (“Whoa! Even Gronk struggled against him!”)…which is what a couple other posters seemed to suggest.

It's probably something that TB wanted to try to see if Gronk could handle him. They won't be trying it again.

Davenport absolutely blew right through gronk who is a superior blocker and made the tackle for a loss on the other side of the line on one play I was watching him.
He’s phenomenal when he’s healthy.
To be fair Gronk should not have been playing with broken ribs and punctured lung and suddenly have "back spasms"

and to be fair to Davenport he still beats Gronk if healthy every time, because Davenport is the real deal. He's the Terron Armstead of our defense now.
