IMO, the difference between the success of the MCU and all other comic book films is one guy: Kevin Feige. To carry one storyline, consistently through all movies requires someone with vision to carry it through to all films. I'm not saying that the storylines are all his, but he's the guy that makes sure all of the creative work meshes and stays on point. The lack of this person is the source of my skepticism that the upcoming Batman vs Superman film will be little more than a hollow attempt to coerce people into forking over money to see something like what Marvel Studios has delivered.

I would consider myself more of a "DC guy" and even I think this could turn out to be a disaster. I have no problem with the casting, but, as you stated, the DCCU seems to lack a singular vision.

Then wait for it....the ultimate movie crossover....Marvel vs DC!!!! Well we all know that would never happen.

I like both Marvel and DC, but I just ddon't think that DC will be able to match Marvel movies......sure they will make money but they have had some real stinkers in comparison to Marvel.

The casting for The Flash 100% solidifies the "no jokes, serious tone" of the DC Universe. Which sucks...because without humor, just...no.

I think this is going to be a disaster. It looks more like Sucker Punch or 300 than Man of Steel. If Snyder gets all silly artistic with this, and it looks like he did, it's going to be an absolute mess.

This could have an Amazing Spider-Man 2 like effect on DCs plans. Even if it makes money if it's a critical failure they may have to take a second look at their plans.

Totally agree. Was not impressed with the leaked trailer. And I am starting to resent how the well done DCTVU is being restricted by what they are doing in the movies(word is Deadshot was offed on Arrow because of the Suicide Squad movie). I have this horrible fear DC/WB will pull the plug on The Flash TV show due to the movie version.

They needed to do another standalone Superman movie. Man of Steel was excellent, not perfect but its heart was exactly where it should have been. There was tons of stuff to explore with a true sequel.

This just reeks of them saying we have to rival the Avengers movies. IMO it's a bad misstep and is going to be a hot mess. They should've concentrated on rivaling Nolan's Batman with the 3 best Superman movies they could make.

James Wan, the director of Furious Seven and The Conjuring, will helm Aquaman for Warner Bros. The superhero movie, with Jason Momoa starring as DC Comics’ King of the Seven Seas—and stalwart member of the Justice League—is scheduled for a 2018 release.

“The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material,” said Greg Silverman, Warner’s president of creative development and worldwide production.

Kurt Johnstad is writing the script, which Wan will “supervise,” and the film will be produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, and Zack Snyder. Momoa’s Aquaman is expected to be introduced on-screen in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Not necessarily the cinematic universe, but still DC-related. If their track record with animated features holds true, this should be an awesome feature.

Structured as a response to the final fan question near the end of Warner Bros.' Premiere of "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" shown to Comic-Con International attendees Friday evening in Ballroom 20, animated feature producer Bruce Timm announced an upcoming new animated film entitled "The Killing Joke."

The film will based on Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's influential 1988 Batman one-shot. Timm stated that the feature would be directed by "Gods and Monsters" director Sam Liu, and released direct to video in 2016.

"Next year we'll be back at this table," Timm stated as the panel concluded, implying that the feature would likewise have a Comic-Con premiere.

Old thread I'm rezzing, but of the several DC movie related threads I wasn't sure which one to post this in. In short, it looks like the DCEU (or whatever they're calling it) is already starting to fall apart.

First up, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news last night that director Seth Grahame-Smith has left The Flash:

The 'Flash' Movie Loses Its Director (Exclusive) - Hollywood Reporter

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith was set to make his feature film directorial debut with The Flash. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, this is no longer the case, citing “creative differences” between studio and filmmaker.

Nothing official has been said other than this, but there are rumors that WB freaked at having a first time director helming the movie after the abysmal reception of BvS and canned him.

Speaking of WB freaking out, there's more from Birth Movie Death:

Crisis On Finite DC Movieverses | Birth.Movies.Death.

My copy/past is being stupid at the moment so I can't paste the exact quotes from the article, but it basically boils down to this:

-Both Zack Snyder and Geoff Johns were completely taken aback at the reception to BvS.

-This has caused Warner Bros. to enter panic mode, and they're exerting far more studio mandates on the production of Justice League. This is leading to big fights between Snyder and the studio about the direction of the movie.

-James Wan may be getting cold feet about directing Aquaman, feeling like he has more career leverage at the moment and WB may need him more than he needs them at this point, and he's wondering if it's even worth the hassle to do it at this point.

Nobody is going into much more detail than this right now, but last night after the Flash news broke, I saw several well-sourced film writers using words like "panic" "mess" "disaster" etc. in reference to the current state of the DC movieverse. Apparently Warner Bros. is not a fun place to be right now, and they're really suffering the double whammy of giving Snyder Justice League and not having any time to course correct after both critics and the public crapped all over the tone and direction of BvS.

I've also seen the implication from several people that WB knew fairly early on that they had a mess on their hands with BvS, but because of the accelerated production schedule on Justice League, they knew if they took Snyder off of it it would create early bad word on BvS and tank the box office. So they opted to let Snyder continue with JL, with the idea that they would have a much firmer hand in dictating what he did on that movie. But now that is leading to fights between him and the studio.

Once this is all said and done it's going to make for one of those great inside baseball Hollywood stories. But right now, the current state of the DC movie verse looks pretty crappy.

Well, looks like our disaster predictions from a year and a half ago are proving correct. I still have cautious optimism for Suicide Squad, and I think Affleck's Batman has some potential, but studio exec meddling is only going to make things worse.

Yeah. Read about Aquaman this morning. Things are not looking good for the home team. As much as we may want to lay blame for things on Zach Snyder (who deserves a lot of blame), the ultimate blame falls on WB. They gave Snyder the keys to the kingdom and now seem to be reaping the "rewards" of their decisions. It really sucks that my favorite comic company is going down the drain from two vantage points (comics and movies).
