DC Cinematic Universe? (1 Viewer)

I'm assuming Snyder gets the boot after Justice League Part 1 wraps. And he's going to spend many, many years in director jail after this. In fact, his career doing big budget studio stuff may be dead.

As to Johns...I am hot and cold with his work (I tend to like his Green Lantern and Flash stuff but not much else) BUT he's a comic guy who knows the DC Universe and its characters very, very well. The importance of that cannot be overstated. That's what they've been lacking this entire time. His appointment to the position can only mean good things. The real question is can they course correct after their abysmal start. Especially with the Zack Snyder albatross around their neck for one more (very major) movie. Time will tell on that front. But they would have been better off doing this from the get go.

While I'm here, let me make a prediction: Zack Snyder finishes directing Justice League part 1. DC/WB announces that they've chosen to go in another direction for JL2 and hire a new guy. You will hear reports about the new guy doing reshoots on JL1 which they will frame as "establishing continuity" or something similar. There will also be reports that Snyder isn't in the editing room and someone else (new director, Affleck, the new production braintrust, etc.) is doing the editing.

In other words, once his minimal contractual obligations are met, he's out and they're handing it all over to someone else to fix.

I can definitely see this happening. Rumors are already going around that Snyder and WB are butting heads over direction of JL1, so it can only be a matter of time. Johns supposedly sat on the creative committee that was supposed to advise Snyder on the direction of the DCEU. Problem is, Snyder saw them as advisors only and ignored most of what they suggested. I can definitely see this considering how pompous Snyder acted in interviews post-MoS and through BvS.

It's being reported that there is an attempt to replace Ben Affleck as Batman and I've seen speculation that there are two factions inside of WB that are disagreeing about the direction of the DCEU and are wrestling for control. They finally made a good movie with Wonder Woman (IMO) and seem determined to ruin any positive momentum they have.

Haven't seen much on the two factions stuff. WB was always pretty territorial but since Geoff Johns took over he's apparently snuffed a lot of that out. The story I've been seeing is basically that post-Wonder Woman they're looking for a big course correction and getting rid of the grim and gritty Snyder era is part of that. Combine that with Affleck apparently having been unhappy for months and this is what you get.

That said, that's about the fifth time this rumor has popped up. The WB/DC panel at Comic-Con is soon, so we may find out something.

I wonder if they'd just pick a new Bruce or if they might do a baton pass to Tim/Dick/Damian?

You could have some time travel shenanigans with The Flash that result in a new Bruce Wayne. I've seen some speculate about this.

You could also go with the "recast and not acknowledge it" tactic, although rumors have said they plan to acknowledge it somehow.

Or you could go with a "Robin becomes Batman" approach. Been done plenty of times in the comics, but will be interesting to see if they think it would work in movies.

The third option would be difficult as there's been no setup for Robin (or at least one who's alive).

The big issue around replacing Affleck goes back to when he stepped down as director of The Batman. It was stated back then that he was looking to get out completely due to all the personal issues he had been going through dealing with his divorce from Jen, plus the flatness that Live by Night encountered.

If he is still unsure about his commitment to playing Bruce, I could see Matt Reeves wanting to make a change also, considering he's signed on for several films.

If they do decide to make a change I would say do it now and get it over with.

New trailer for Justice League dropped:

Also, trying to find more solid confirmation, but apparently Affleck shot down the rumors of him jumping ship at the WB SDCC panel. Said he loved playing Batman and was looking forward to working with Matt Reeves.

Joblo.com posted Ben's comment from Hall H on its Twitter feed. He was pretty damn convincing. He didn't necessarily say he wasn't going anywhere, but to quote he "would play an ape if Matt Reeves" wanted him to.

This current trailer is definitely a step up. The score alone gets you excited. We shall see. Also, the ending of the trailer. Any ideas. Is it Kal-El. Too obvious right? Or could it be a supergirl, Martian manhunter or a papa johns delivery kid.

Definitely has to be Superman. If I had another guess, I would say we might see a Green Lantern, considering Steppenwolf declared in the beginning there were none here.
