DE Kyle Phillips signed to the 53 man roster from practice squad (1 Viewer)

Lalos had more sacks in one preseason game than this guy has had his whole career, don’t know why they just didn’t elevate him.
Lalos’ preseason sacks were against 3rd and 4th team OL. He’s never had many regular season snaps against first team OL. Phillips was in the Jets DE rotation in all 15 of 16 games in his rookie season then was hit by injuries next few seasons.

Of course, I'm not the coaches who sees this player every day, but from a fan perspective and watching him during the preseason, I didn't think he stands out that much besides the one lucky interception he made

You do know Phillips was also on the team for preseason and went up against those same players Lalos had his sacks on right?

Neither guy would actually play in a game imo, but Lalos has the higher upside right now.

Phillips has regular season game experience on defense for an entire season in his first year and seasons after. Started some games as well. Lalos made most of his chances in preseason but coaching staff sees who’s more capable against starting OL more than us.

Phillips also plays DT and special teams so that factors in. Foskey and Kpassagnon will probably pick up the immediate snaps that Turner would’ve had.

Then why was Phillips activated and not The Great Lalos?

I read that Connely reinjured his knee in Sunday's game. I wonder if they activate Jalon Smith or do they go with a different player with an eye toward special teams?

As I speculated in an earlier post regarding bringing up Lalos, I wouldn't be surprised if Foskey is inactive on Monday now that the Saints have brought up Philips. Same thinking, different practice squad elevation.

I still think they'd like to give the 2nd rounder some rotational work in games, but I can see them going with Phillips over Foskey more than I could see them going w/ Lalos b/c Phillips has a lot more NFL experience.

I think Phillips started one of those preseason games. He played against actual NFL players last year as well.
