DeMarcus Walker please. Underrated DE from Florida State University. (1 Viewer)

Very good player. He was very dominant in the Orange Bowl. One of the most impressive performances during the Bowl season I seen. He and Dalvin Cook were the two best players on the field. And he's a player who could be there in the third.

He could be an impact defender in the NFL; the thing is, he mostly plays on the strong side-where Cam currently plays. Not sure he has the athleticism to fit on the weak side. Him, McDowell, Kpassagnon... all strong-side guys. We need a weak-side speed rusher, like Jordan Willis. That said, good DCs get the most out of their players and move them around, so if they take him and think he'll have a role in the defence-cool.

Would love to have Walker. Dude can rush the passer and he's stout against the run. I actually would prefer him over Willis and every other DE remaining

This here.

Walker isn't even a particularly athletic strong-side end. Almost 5-flat in the 40, almost 8-flat in the 3-cone. Not only is he much less experienced than Cam Jordan, he's much less talented. I don't see the point. We've got Darryl Tapp as a solid Cam backup, and David Onyemata as a last resort.

We need the Willis/Rivers/Bowser/Hall/Lawson/Basham/Hendrickson/Dimick type.

You guys make a lot of sense. Should I change my opinion? I didn't realize that there was a strong side or anything, just good and bad DEs.

Being saying this for weeks.... Him and a SAM combo will be the ideal combo for tonight.

Well of course I think you should change your opinion or I wouldn't have said anything. :)

There's basically four spots on the defensive line, and to think about it in a simplistic way, here they are in order from smallest/most athletic to strongest/least athletic:

1. WDE (RE)
2. SDE (LE)
3. DT
4. NT

Now, here's how I would list our guys on a depth chart currently:

WDE: Okafor, Kikaha, Gwacham, LaFrance (camp guy who may get cut in UDFA this weekend)
SDE: Jordan, Tapp, Loewen (see LaFrance), Pettway (see LaFrance)
DT: Fairley, Onyemata, Zimmer
NT: Davison, Rankins, Fairley

Now, there's a little problem with that. Rankins is really a DT, but he's got a similar size to Davison, and he's a great pass rusher from NT in passing downs, so I listed him there for depth purposes. So you could say the roster is a little heavy on DT (but not really, because NT don't play much these days). That's why anybody we draft that "can kick out or in," is probably going to be buried between the #2 and #3 spots, #2 being the spot Cam plays, #3 being all our other proven healthy pass rushers. Make sense?

I see it a bit differently. While Kik and Okafor aren't the strongest pair of edge rushers....they are serviceable. On the other hand, we have nothing aside from Cam when it comes to every down DEs. I would love to pick up a guy like this that is good a both. Let Kik or Okafor come in on passing downs.

You need to consider the opponent. Strong-side DEs play on the left side of the defensive line, opposite the opposing team's right tackle. The RT is usually a stronger, but slower tackle that can protect the QB, but the QB is able to anticipate more, because he can see the rush coming. (It's all flipped if the QB is right-handed.) Often times, this tackle will be better at opening up holes in the running game, so the strength to disengage from the tackle to offer run support is important here. The DE that faces this guy is usually stronger, bigger, but not as fast as the guy on the other side. Cam, JPP, Dunlap, Watt-these guys are the prototypes for the LDE.

On the other side-the weak side-is where you have your Left Tackles. The guy that protects the QB's blind side. These guys have it all-size, strength, quickness. If you want to beat them, you need to find a quick, twitchy pass-rusher that can get around them. Dwight Freeney, Robert Quinn-these guys are the prototypes for the RDE.

For our team, we should be looking at a Willis/Bowser-type, but, again, good DCs find ways to utilize their players. So if they took one, I'd say there are interesting plans in place.

Thing is about Willis, on his highlight tape he gets to the QB when no one is blocking him, or doing a piss poor job of doing so. I didnt see him fight through blocks or make talented moves. Lawson looks better.

He and Carl Lawson are the best 4th quarter, game winning drive pass rushers in this draft. Those two guys are ferocious at the ends of games. Just two guys who are really good at getting to the QB. We would be lucky to get either and there are a few mocks that have both guys available in the 3rd. I'd love to snag another round 1 talent CB at 42 and pick one of them in the 3rd

I never understood why Walker has been in more discussions. He made plays every game as a Seminole and was always a factor. He's probably better on the LDE side, but he's better than what the Saints have now.
