Derek Carr was on the Pardon My Take podcast this week and gave his personal take on Taysom Hill. Excerpts below are from a 7/19/24 article by Kelsey Dallas of Deseret News as viewed at sports.yahoo.com

Derek Carr just called Taysom Hill a ‘Hall of Fame football player’

‘Taysom is the best football player I’ve ever played with,’ Carr said

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is full of praise for someone who could technically take his job — former BYU quarterback turned Saints’ Swiss Army knife Taysom Hill.

During an appearance this week on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Carr described Hill as “the best football player I’ve ever played with” and “the nicest person in the world.”

“He can do everything — throws, runs, catches, fullback, quarterback, tight end, receiver, slot, blocks punts, personal protector,” Carr said. “That man is a Hall of Fame football player.”

Carr also noted that Hill is much more aggressive than some people realize.

To illustrate his point, he described a play from a Saints game against the Carolina Panthers. Hill ran toward the end zone like his life depended on it, Carr said, noting that the former BYU QB “sees red” when he has a chance to score.

“For the nicest person in the world, I looked at him as the most violent, angry ... He just puts his head down against like three dudes and pretty much trucked them all. Dude, that was the most violent, impressive thing I’ve ever seen,” Carr said.

He added that Hill’s skills are obvious to him, even if they may not be easily captured on the stats sheet.

“Taysom is the best football player I’ve ever played with,” Carr said.

That's just listing 10 players that Carr has played with in his career. There's plenty of others who merit mentioning.

Those were glowing comments that Carr made about Taysom in that interview. Here's hoping that Hill lives up to them in 2024 and beyond with the Saints.

I know many people are going to hate hearing this, and let me preface this by saying I am one of Carr's strongest supporters and defenders as far as his on the field performance, but I'd say I am learning more and more each time he speaks that Carr is a guy that my old high school buddies and I would term as someone that "Just be sayin' ANYTHING."

He panders to whoever he is talking to or whatever the subject matter is, and frequently sounds like a guy that's just saying what he thinks everyone wants to hear.

I don't know if "Smarmy" is the right word, but yeah...take this whole "Taysom Hill is the best football player I've ever played with" matter with a grain of salt, because Derek Carr just be sayin' ANYTHING. :ROFLMAO:

It’s the personal protector line that is most relevant to his opinion.

Even as he talks slightly negative about someone, he prefaces it with, “And i Love Mike”(Michael Thomas as an example). It’s pretty obvious to me that either Davante Adams or Khalil is the best player on the list of guys he played with. Taysom is the most versatile on that list, but Adams is a first ballot HOF player. Mack was a force of nature too.

Introducing NFL Hall of Famer … Taysom Hill?

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr joined the Pardon My Take podcast on Wednesday and the conversation ended up talking about his thoughts on former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill.

“Taysom is the best football player I’ve ever played with,” Carr said on the podcast.

Carr talked about how Ronald Curry (who he called the greatest athlete of all time) was the Saints quarterback coach last year and warned the newcomer about Hill.

“He said that when Tayson runs the football, he sees red,” Carr said on the podcast. “He said I know you are probably out there on the edge, probably wide open, but he won’t see you.”

He then described a memorable moment from the 2023 season when New Orleans was playing at Carolina.

“I think it was Monday Night Football and we were on the 5-yard line,” Carr said on the podcast. “He runs a keeper right at me. I see my corner take off, so I slip and I’m open in the end zone. I look at Taysom’s face and for the nicest person in the world, he had the most violent, angry look. He just puts his head down between three dudes and pretty much trucked them all. I was like, that is the most violent, impressive thing I’ve ever seen.”

Carr lauded how Hill can do everything on the football field and said he deserves to be recognized for it.

“He throws, runs, catches, plays fullback, quarterback, tight end, receiver, slots, blocks punts, personal protector,” Carr said on the podcast. “Because of how stats work I don’t know how it will work but that man is a Hall-of-Fame football player because he does everything.”

What if he was telling the truth? There are not 31 other teams that has a player like TH7. Which means, this is the first time that he ever had a chance to play with a player like TH7.

I mean, the guy played with prime Khalil Mack, and that Davante Adams fella ain’t too shabby. 🤣

Yeah those guys are amazing players, but read what DC4 is actually conveying. You have this super nice dude, who sees red when he sees the endzone, and is willing to run through a Khalil Mack. Not run around, but through a Mack. It’s unreal. Mack and Adams specializes in one thing, while TH7 specializes/has specialized in a handful, and he produces in all of them. He’s a unicorn
