Piece is entitled “The Casting Couch” - and piece wins third prize for its quality.

Later, a judge realizes that the piece depicts a porn set. Judges are convened and the award is withdrawn.

It’s just a room . . . or is it inappropriate even though no one would know, unless they knew?

Depends on if some level of decency is spelled out in the terms of the contest or not. If so, then I the fair's decision is fair. If not, then he should retain the award imho.
