I say this with some risk, becuase their isnt a MLB baseball team in the Carolinas, I mean the closest thing to MLB in those parts are the Braves or the Nationals in DC, but I was talking to a former reporter from Charlotte, North Carolina that told me that one day very soon MLB may be moving into Charlotte and the Carolinas and establish a team their.

But North Carolina is a different state with different values, they were seen with some doubt as to whether or not they could support the Panthers franchise many years ago and they did it with flying colors and a SB appearance later. In many ways, it was doubted that when the Jazz left New Orleans in the late 70's that their would never be another NBA team in Nawlins and guess what the Hornets move here from Charlotte and have never looked back.

but as for a MLB baseball team in North Carolina, it would be an interesting experiment,its a growing part of the world, it has a growing city in the Raleigh-Charlotte area, so it could conceivably host as an baseball city.

either way it would be interesting never the less.

I'm not taking anything away from your theory Saintman, but Raleigh & Charlotte are almost 3 hours apart from each other.

Well, yes it is true, they are far apart, but there still in the same state and that makes the point even more of a emphasis. I think that North Carolina is sort of underrated in terms of sports teams and actaul quality on the field, they put out good teams most of the times, they have good basketball teams like Duke and UNC, the Panthers, the Hurricanes of the NHL, and to a lesser extent the Bobcats, their pretty productive bunch of people. I think they dont get enough respect in the national media as a matter of fact in general.

I don't see the MLB expanding... Remember they were talking about contraction a few years ago...

Eventually, within 10-15 years, maybe. Population shifts predicate this, along with marketing, etc. Maverick owners emerge, other cities lose interset and/or fail. For the purposes of venture capitalism, I'd take a shot. As a localized fan, I'd support the minor leaguers.

I say Greensboro would be a good choice. Over a million people in a 45 minute radius. Almost right in the middle of Raleigh and Charlotte.

Greensboro needs something. Very boring place to live and I have now been here 12 years. I think Raleigh is in my future (closer to the beach).

The Raleigh-Charlotte area? Is that kind of like the Baton Rouge-Shreveport area? The Birmingham-Montgomery-Mobile area? The Houston-San Antonio area? I live in Durham, which is even closer to Charlotte than Raleigh, and the only time I have ever been to Charlotte was for the Saints game vs. the Panthers in October. Raleigh-Durham is already supporting a hockey team, and people also support three major univerisities - Duke, UNC, and NC State. So I doubt we could handle a baseball team here. Charlotte would be the best bet, I guess.

I think it's very unlikely in the next 10 years, and if it does happen, it may fail. That's no real knock on Charlotte (the biggest metro in the Carolinas).

MLB has put new teams in much larger and faster growing metropolitan areas than Charlotte, such as Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-West Palm and Phoenix. And they have struggled.

It's very hard to fill 40,000+ seats 81 nights a year. Prices are much higher than 10 years ago -- the Phillies now charge $31 for a nosebleed seat. And the economics of baseball, with smaller markets at a disadvantage without a hard salary cap, mean that baseball's small markets (and Charlotte would be one -- a metropolitan area of 2.5M is a small market in baseball, unlike the NFL or NBA) find it even more difficult to draw fan interest, since everybody knows that the Yankees and Red Sox will sign the best players with their $$$. Even an established team like the Blue Jays are struggling economically, despite a near-record high for the Canadian $ against the US $, and despite there being nearly 9 million people in the "Golden Horsehoe" around Toronto.

Wow that is expensive. At that price it would be very difficult to support each game and then - hopefully - into the playoffs. I know I couldn't at that price.

That may actually improve the NBA game (but at the expense of the NHL). Na, not worth it - hopefully the NBA will just die out.

Not sure if Baseball will be expanding.
Like another said,In South Florida and Arizona they are struggling.also Tampa Bay Devil Rays are abysimal
