Does Letting DA Go Make THIS Much Difference Or Was It Also a Function of (75 Viewers)

I think DA really ruined this team. Make no mistake about it, this is still a bad team. One of the worst in the league. We are just playing bad teams on our schedule right now.

The Atlanta win was big ...today's win not so much. Taysom will not be able to run wild against some teams so other people will have to make plays.
The Browns aren’t great…but they are an NFL team. They did beat the Ravens.

If you watched Oakland and followed them when DA was head coach, then watch the saints while DA was head coach, you see a load of familiar problems. To me, it was obvious DA was a horrible choice to be Head Coach from day one. I packed up my hopes for the team and shipped em out.

that was almost 3 years ago. This week is the first time I've had hope for this team in 3 years. It feels good. But here are the similarities that occurred in Oakland.

1. Locker room issues : there was turmoil in Oaklands locker room. Allen played the good guy to the press, but there was bad blood with Palmer (a really good QB). Rumors were that is was Palmer vs Dennis Allen. But Allen was adamant there were no locker room issues. Palmer was shipped out the following season to Arizona.
2. The players stopped playing hard for Allen : Every single player had a career worst time playing in Oakland under Dennis Allen. Every single player had better stats defensively and offensively as soon as he was fired from Oakland, or that player left the team to play literally anywhere else.
3. Oakland under Dennis Allen could not beat .500 team or better
4. Front office issues against players : There was a reported disconnect with the front office and its players. Players would voice concerns to the front office about Dennis Allen, which went ignored by the front office.
5. Players were not coached up. Draft picks, 2nd string etc... No one got better. They all got worse as players and found little to no success. It honestly looked like players that didn't belong in the NFL. They go to a different team and boom, they suddenly start becoming better players.

All of these things occurred with the Saints except number 4 played out differently. Instead of saints players going to the front office and voicing concerns about DA, the players were visited by the front office and told to "buy into our path and play hard or get shipped out".

DA is quite literally one of the worst NFL head coaches in history, if not thee worst.

Rizz is 2-0 and were underdogs in both games.
And we gave up 900 yards on defense but by sheer luck only gave up 31 points. I still think coaching is overrated as far as being the difference between winning and losing in this league. I would bet that Rizzi loses both games without Taysom Hill.

It seems that once things started going wrong in a game and in the season, DA could not right the ship. So it got worse. In yesterday's game against the Browns, there was a moment in the 3rd Qtr when it was 14-14 and Saint's momentum had stalled, the Browns seemed poised to go on a run, and the game seemed to be slipping away. Here was a crucial point in the game. But Rizzi regrouped his players, overcame the adversity, and won the game handily. That's important. DA did not seem to have that ability this season.

I think the team needed a fresh voice, but as others noted, injuries made a BIG difference. Also, it's pure luck that opposing kickers have been absolutely awful against us the past two weeks (wish we could've had it in the 2018 NFCCG).

If Rizzi goes 2-1 against GB, Wash and L.A, I'm convinced he's the front runner or should be to land the full-time gig. These are teams you would be stealing wins from and shouldn't be expected to win against.

I’d say a win against the Rams makes him the front runner in my opinion.
He’ll have the support of the fanbase.

You see it a good bit when interims take over, the team usually responds by playing with a bit of fire. I still think this is a product of playing the Falcons at the right time, and a series of bad teams on the schedule.

I like Rizz, but we need a new GM and that GM needs to bring in his guy. Interims who get the post HC firing bump and end up with the permanent job, usually dont work out. The Raiders did it with Antonio Pierce, and that certainly isnt working out.

In the last 15 years, there have been 4 interim coaches that have had the interim tag removed. They are a combined 44-78.

The difference with the Raiders are with Mahomes there for years, the Broncos hiring Payton abd Harbaugh to Chargers; the Raiders are well established as the 4th team in the division.

In the South looking at 2025, there is no superstar QB or well established HC.
I can easily see Rizz stealing the South next year.

Even with the injuries, we should have beaten Philly and Atlanta earlier in the year, but the team caved at the last minute in each game, a la DA style. Now, the team is finishing games, and Rizzi says he's put an emphasis on finishing practices strong, so I think this is a key coaching factor underlying our two recent victories. I simply don't believe we would have beaten Atlanta in the second game with them after AK dropped the easy touchdown late in the 4th quarter. Under DA, the defense would have collapsed at the very end and the team would have seized defeat from the jaws of victory.

Now, the team still has problems that aren't going away soon, such as lack of a pass rush, a thin WR corps, and a thin RB corps. And Taysom absolutely needs to stay healthy for this run to continue. This is not a dominant team by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a good team that started to tank under Allen and that has been brought back to life by Rizzi.
