Looking to prevent a holdout and to control spending, the Dolphins have begun contract negotiations with Michigan left tackle Jake Long and agent Tom Condon, who met with the team in South Florida this week, an NFL source said Wednesday.
The team with the top pick can negotiate a contract with a player before they draft him. But the discussions with Long, a 6-foot-7, 313-pound two-time All-America, don't necessarily mean he'll end up in a Dolphins uniform.
