Drew Brees Weekly Press Conf. 10-7-15 (1 Viewer)

My teenage son is a huge Eagles fan...my wife gets furious when he starts cursing at the television during games like a true local, and then for the next six hours after a loss he's just dropping bitterly cynical comments about the players and coaches like a true son of Ben Franklin.

Sort of proud of him, actually.

Whassamatta fa dat boy?

This is absolutely a football town. By far, the most popular pro team is the Eagles, even though they've gone the longest without a title. And there was a time, before the new stadium softened the place up, that it was a REAL tough place to play. Remember when Payton had the bus circle the stadium twice so they could have the fans throw snowballs at it?

Now, you can actually go to a game now in a Brees jersey and have a very good chance of getting nothing more than a lot of verbal **** with a little respect blended in. Eagles fans like guys like Brees, precisely because a Brees-type is not Manning or Brady.

And the locals really do know football, and are always keenly aware of their own team's shortcomings. Passionate fans but not football ignorant. A lot of the bitterness and anger comes from the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins winning Super Bowls and still, they wait.

And the recognize know that fans of teams like the Saints have suffered, too, which is how you are OK as a Saints fan around here. Being a Saints fan around here is like being a killer in a prison yard: you don't have many friends, but you get your respect.

haha :spit: that's a 'killer' line..

My best friend is an Eagles fan, unfortunately, so I can vouch for the fan base's passion. They love their team, but if you can imagine how ridiculously pessimistic SSF gets after a couple losses, that's them all the time. Pent up anger from having some pretty solid teams over the years but never going all the way.. then on top of that they have to deal with getting their butts handed to them whenever they play the Saints... :hihi:

They are some of the most fairminded fans you can watch a game with. My best buddy and some fam and friends follow the birds. They don't sugar coat much. Will ask for the HC and QB with 5 NFCCGs to be fired and benched, respectively. You can win a title there, but you won't live on it long...It's what have you done lately.

Honest fans and will give you honest props for you team...if your team deserves it.:hihi: No patience.for BS, and will call you out in the stands...as my cousin found out. We would have probably gotten a new HC a year ago if we were in Philly...lol.

Some you know that I grew up as an Eagles fan. When they came to NO in 1980 and lost the Superbowl to Oakland, a freaking wild card team, that was the end for me. I knew that there was almost zero chance of moving back there, I decided to become a Saints fan.

Older Philly sports fans will remember how awful all of the Phila. sports teams were for decades. The Phillies won pennants in 1915 and 1950 and lost both World Series. There was a long standing sense of frustration within the fan base. More recently, the Phillies have won World Series, the Flyers have won the Stanley Cup, the Sixers had their championships. But the Eagles have never won a Superbowl. So now, it's not surprising that the Eagles fans are ******.

Decades of frustration followed by a championship...sound familiar? When I came over from the dark side, it only took 29 years. :hihi:

Your son is an Eagles fan and you are proud of him? I would bastageize him.

You can't ask your kid to not support his home town team.

He always pulls for the Saints, too, when they're not playing the Eagles. When we lost that playoff game to the 49ers, he burst into tears.

But it would be cruel to make your kid not pull for his local teams.
