DT John Ridgeway III and a 7th round pick traded to the Saints for a 2025 6th round pick [the 6th rd pick came back in Lattimore trade] (1 Viewer)

You are comparing his stats in a 4-2-5 & occasionally a 4-3...
It's not the same!
Which is essentially what the Fangio defense runs. They rarely line up in a 3-4, and were in a nickel package on 81% of snaps this season (3rd highest in the league).

He's a good rotational guy. Always gave effort. I'm looking forward to seeing what a new staff brings. The old one was just awful.

Fangio OLB's are 3-4 OLB...
He doesn't use big slower 4-3 DE...
so while he runs 4 man fronts he still used more athletic & quicker OLB to run his 4 man fronts...

The same but different!

But you need more dominant DT’s to be able to pull off what he did. If our DT’s struggled with bigger DE’s next to them, it won’t improve if we just put lighter guys next to them.

Rigdeway might not struggle as much... Vic Fangio D is as much about forcing the OL into one on ones...
DA's D isn't nearly as good at this...

But DT is one of our biggest needs in the draft & it is loaded with talent for either the 3-4 or 4-3.

3-4 my first choice would be trade back & select Kenneth Grant...
Or Deone Walker in the 2nd round if we draft another position with the 9th pick.

4-3 you draft Mason Graham if he drops to us...

We don't draft LBs in the first round.

Maybe if the right one was there they would break this pattern but I'm not holding my breath.
