If this guy can consistently play a big role in run stuffing, he could be a game changer for this defense. Far too often this front seven have to sell out to stop the run, and while it works early on in the season, we almost always end up getting exploited by mid season when teams have enough tape to exploit our poor play at the position.

I don't get this. It's easy to say "Khalen Saunders injury replacement" but that's a lazy analysis to me. Saunders has a short term injury and we typically play only three defensive tackles a game anyway because people like Jordan can kick inside situationally. Maybe they don't think Boyd is ready to play. Maybe they're just loading up because they absolutely love him and he doesn't cost much. Who knows?

Saunders is hurt--might be longer than expected---might be an upgrade with some competition at the position

So many people conveniently ignoring the Saints defensive line last season was one of the worst in the entire league.

28th in Sacks.
28th in Pressure percentage.
23rd in Rush Yards per Carry.
31st in Tackles for Loss.

The fact the Saints secondary wasn't completely shredded is a huge testament to just how freaking good the defensive backs are. They led the league in passes defended.

Signing Chase Young who has never come close to living up to the hype and spending a 6th round pick on a DT were their only moves this offseason until now.

I doubt this move does much, BUT they only gave up a 6th round pick and got a 7th in return for a potential depth DT so all in all not bad.

I'm watching him play against the Patriots in their preseason game last week. He is walking guards back every down. I'm talking major penetration

So far, I've watched just a handful of snaps. He already has a big tackle for a loss, disrupted a screen pass, hit the qb twice, and just forced a holding call on a double team block

He said he couldn't compete with the super athletic ex-football players who weren't good football players. Turns out those super athletic but unproductive types were unbeatable when they were given specifically scripted actions instead of having to read and react.

Tebucky Jones would have been the perfect football player extra.
