Elton John es EGOT (9 Viewers)

and reading through the list it looks like a couple won an Emmy and Oscar for the same song

That list isn't complete unless Tracy Jordan is on it

The company is quite underwhelming to be honest ... Elton John being the biggest name on the list except maybe Mel Brooks
You probably heard of Audrey Hepburn... maybe you have heard of Andrew Lloyd Webber, who's a Broadway legend; then there's Marvin Hamlisch, who composed music for films like The Sting and The Way We Were...

For the longest, when I was much more of a purist, this was my complaint about John Williams- that he was a hack
Then I got all post-modern
I mean... to his credit, Lloyd Webber has Cats, Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, among others, but 3 music arrangements sound similar, and he's a hack. Ok.

I don't think any of his "major" themes were stolen, unlike ALW and Phantom - thats the opening theme. Its true that sections of Star Wars were almost directly lifted from Gustav Holtz "The Planets". But we're talking about really minor sections. Not the Main Theme. Not the Imperial March. not the Han and Leia theme

And the entire film score is a good 30 minutes or so.

I remember when I was younger I could simply lie back and listen to the entire film score and it was almost like watching the movie, in some cases even better

…kinda…
It would be like the Grand Slam if you replaced the Aussie Open with a pickleball tournament
Usually one of the awards (often the grammys) will be a reach like ‘best spoken word performance’
Emmys and Oscars obviously have the closest skill set overlap- but being a great stage performer (Tonys) doesn’t mean you can translate that to screen
BUT
If you’re a great musical theatre performer, you can obviously sing so a Grammy would be unsurprising

There's also the EGOT people who got an honorary and not a competitive award. So like James Earl Jones is technically in the EGOT club but he didn't win a competitive Oscar, it was a lifetime achievement award.

Also, his Grammy, while competitive, was for the spoken word category for an album called "Great American Documents" where a bunch of famous people just...read famous American documents like the Bill of Rights, Constitution, Emancipation Proclamation, etc.

I hear that but at least it was actually awarded to him ... unlike apparently some Emmys.

I think a couple of the Grammy's have been for spoken word also.
