What do you gain by believing just so that you don't stand to lose anything by not believing? Do you think that if there is an almighty, he/she/it won't see right through that plan?

If they dont believe than whats the harm on not believing? Also what is the point of just believing in something just to cover your bases. People dont believe for a lot of reasons, just like people have a lot of reaons to believe. Some people cant see how it is possiable, some people see the evil in the world and cant reconcile a loving god, with a terriable world. And some people dont know if there is or isnt something out there. This is a complex world we live in, and people have differnt ways of trying to make sense of it.

I wouldnt agree with that, they are both beliefs. You may thinks its a extaordinary claim to say there is. Some would say your belief that there isnt a god is a extraordianry claim.

From a philosophical point of view, the burden of proof is always on the person contending that something does exist. It's the basis for empiricism/the Scientific Method. Beyond that, it's essentially impossible to prove a negative and if we required that, we would have to believe that anything we can't prove exists, does exist. That would seem to me to have all sorts of odd consequences. For instance, I could claim there was a teapot at the center of the universe that created the universe. You can't prove their isn't therefore, if we require proof that something does not exist, you would have to believe that that teapot does exist and it created the universe. The same would apply to any nonsensical thing anyone could think of.
