Since the chatter started, I think about what it would cost the Saints to move up and select Miami's Cam Ward with the top pick. Here's what I came up with. Enjoy!!

Disclaimer: This is pure speculation by me; I give it a 10% chance of happening.

It's silly season, so I'll play along. If I'm the Titans I don't want to trade all the way back to 9. I can make a deal with NYG and still get one of Carter/Hunter/Graham. So I'd tell the Saints to go get NE's pick at 4 and come back with an offer.

That said, everything that the Titans are NOT doing at QB this offseason makes me think they'll stay put and pick Cam.

The only way it happens is if we traded with Giants if there. Carr goes to them and we move up. Additional comp. Needed maybe, we'll see.

Carr can’t be traded until after June 1.
Before June, a Carr trade would be a 58.4M dead money cap charge putting the Saints about -28 million over the cap.

Post 6/1, it’s 19.21M dead money/1.25M cap savings from a trade. Or $20.46M dead money, same as his current cap hit, from a release. Carr would be traded or released later in the offseason in a separate move if they go in that direction.

It would be evil and insane to trade away at least 1 and probably 2 first round picks. Tennessee will want Rattler or Shaheed in the deal, to give back one of those 2 future 1st rounders.

Sure, Mickey could then become like an NBA General Manager, and start trading the 2028 pick to get back into the 2026 first round.

Derrick, good article!

Here's another comp:

What did the 49ers trade for Trey Lance?

49ers get:
  • 2021 first-round pick (No. 3 overall)
Dolphins get:
  • 2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall)
  • 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)
  • 2022 third-round pick (No. 101 overall)
  • 2023 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)
