Penix is a first round pick and won games. How is this different from the Saints playing Rattler over Carr?
Not much different but I can’t imagine what this board would be like if Loomis came out and said he’d be ‘perfectly fine’ paying Carr to backup Rattler. Not ideal. How is this different from the Saints playing Rattler over Carr?

It’s not ideal at all. Carr wants to play and will be the starting qb unless he is absolute dust like Kirk Cousins was this season. If Loomis came out and said that then praise be to Loomis. Very Ideal to have a veteran back up QB. The Cap situation is what it is. Next year is 100% rebuild mode. But that aint really up to Loomis unless he steps on the next Coach, which is not his MO.
It would be a pretty good way to signal that someone might want to move off of their no trade clause. Not much different but I can’t imagine what this board would be like if Loomis came out and said he’d be ‘perfectly fine’ paying Carr to backup Rattler. Not ideal.
Not ideal but it be the only way to move forward. There are people in the building who are ready to move forward with Rattler but the cap situation might influence the decision on Carr. If they decide to cut bait, they won’t have money to bring back some of their own free agents much less sign others. It’ll depend on what the new head coach wants to do and we could very well see a “scenario” where Carr is kept for cap flexibility, has to compete for his job, and is playing back up to Rattler next year (that is if he’s not released at the end of the summer/training camp). Not much different but I can’t imagine what this board would be like if Loomis came out and said he’d be ‘perfectly fine’ paying Carr to backup Rattler. So you are of the belief that Carr is going to be the QB beyond next season? If not, then there is no point to start Carr. period. It is ideal to get the Young QB more reps and have a veteran back up QB. If he wants to "start" he can "take a pay cut" so we can trade him. IDEAL City. It’s not ideal at all. I just don’t see how you could watch the games this season and come to the conclusion that Rattler will start over Carr next year. Not ideal but it be the only way to move forward. It’d be okay if Rattler was playing to Penix’s level, but he was too up and down to be dubbed a starting QB right now.So you are of the Belief that Carr is going to be the QB beyond next season? Depends on whether you are trying to be a .500 team with a lot of money invested in older veterans or if you are looking to the future and trying to retool. It is all about what the focus of the organization is. It is not as simple as saying Carr is better than Rattler currently.I just don’t see how you could watch the games this season and come to the conclusion that Rattler will start over Carr next year.
