He's not getting drafted high because he might not play, he might not play much, he might not play well, and he certainly will not get the volume he got in 2018-19.

Has not caught a ball in preseason. You'd think that if he could play at all, they would throw him one just to get him going.

What has he shown in the past two years?

I can understand the concern fantasy players have for him. The concerns are valid and real. Realistically he's never going to see 185 targets again in his career. Even with a 17 games schedule he would need to average nearly 11 targets a game to reach that mark.

Even if MT comes back at 100% and he's still the player he was in 2019 the targets still aren't going to be there for a variety of reasons.

1. He's not the only viable option in the passing game. In 2019 he was the passing game. Obviously AK saw his fair share of targets but if you look at the other WRs and TEs who saw meaningful snaps, MT had more targets than all of them combined. Just look at this:

MT - 185 targets

Cook - 65
Ginn - 56
Josh Hill - 35
Tre'Quan - 25

Those four players combined for 181 targets. No way MT see more targets than the rest of the WRs and TEs combined this season.

2. Brees is gone with the wind. All due respect to Winston but he's no Drew Brees. Drew and MT developed a rapport that we haven't seen since Manning and Harrison were doing there thing two decades ago.

3. The offense is probably going to be different. With this defense DA is probably going to try to take care of the football and play complimentary football like we saw last season.

I’ll be drafting him in the 4th round

We probably need to take off our black and gold glasses for a minute.

You dont draft a 29 year old receiver, dealing with a new injury, who has missed most of the previous 2 seasons...based on production in what is now 3 years ago. Just read that a few times and you can figure out why he isnt being drafted higher.

Alex Smith, at 36, nearly had his leg amputated and returned to the football field in less time than Michael Thomas. I understand there is a difference between a QB and a WR, but a younger guy in peak physical condition missing the better part of 2 years, and is now dealing with an injury starting year 3? Im surprised he is even being taken in the 4th round.

He has in practice.
