Former Cosby show star bagging groceries and job shamed. (3 Viewers)

Agreed there.
Again though, the story caught my eye for the basic compassion and human nature aspect.
Whomever snapped the photo and whomever jumped on the wagon to shame this person, should themselves be shamed. Their insecurities in themselves lead them to tear down others, imo. I care not who ran with the story, all I care about is those who made fun of a man for honest work. And those on the other side that defended this man. Regardless of race creed color ethnicity etc.

I think it is important to note which news source ran with the story.

I don’t think CNN, MSNBC, NPR, Reuters, nor the AP would have ran this story.

you may be correct about the last 3 but don't fool yourself about at least the first two. If they think it will get them clicks....

I get what you are saying but you can't point to low ethics from a position of "the other side" here. All of our biggest news media sources are worthless these days. And both political parties have just as much blame in it. If you are still buying in to either of these parties then you are also more likely to click articles that give you comfortable food for your confirmation bias. The partisan networks will gladly oblige.

The first two would not have run a story that panders to people who are racist against brown people.

I’ll agree that they are all about the ratings, but they have a line.

Could they perchance run a story that panders to people who are racist against others than Brown people?

The only thing that snags me on the whole racism front is that many seem to insinuate that they feel it only happens one way.?.?

Geoffrey Owens - IMDb

Also, let it be noted that he's still very much active in Hollywood. It's not uncommon to see actors who haven't had a major role in years suddenly pop up on a series you watch.

Couple of things ...

1) As noted in the OP's link, Geoffrey Owens is still a working actor. Plenty of one-off TV credits, including as recent as 2017 (an episode of Elementary). Also plenty of stage work. Owens probably doesn't own his own private jet or anything ... but neither is he eating out of garbage cans.

2) This Twitter dust-up has gotten Owens A LOT of attention. Owens, going by the photos, seems to have a type. The older, wisened, seen-it-all African-American father figure. Think Laurence Fishburne. Charles Dutton. The late Ron Glass (the chaplain on Firefly). Would anyone be surprised to Geoffrey Owens on a 2019 episode of Blackish as one of the parents' black-sheep uncles or something like that? Or as that hard-arsze professor type in some college-set drama? Walking the sidelines in the next big sports biopic?

If only Blackish had a spin off that was set in college:unsure:

Good points. I thought about this angle too.
Also RIP Ron Glass, he was great as was Firefly.

Whoever took this picture and whoever decided to run the story at the Daily Mail and whoever decided to rerun the story at Fox all did Owens a huge favor. To be fair to those organizations, I didn't read anything malicious in the articles they ran about Owens bagging groceries. I didn't see any shaming. People just saw the picture and read the headline and assumed just because there was a story about it that people must be shaming him.

Oh well, looks like he's thankful for all of the attention at least.

"I feel like I'm more of a celebrity now then I've ever been. I'm more of a celebrity now then when I was actually a celebrity," Owens told Good Morning America on Tuesday.

Yep. Owens will absolutely get a bunch more calls from the more socially-conscious directors and show-runners.

2 things

1. I'm glad to see so much support for him, there is no shame in doing an honest days work

2. How bad is it when I read the thread title I thought of Elvin first?
